Your service menu will consist of every billable service you offer. It powers your work orders, customer portal, and service reminders.
How to Create a New Service
To add a new service to your Boatyard account:
Click the “Add New Service” button in the top right corner of your Services page.
A pop-up window will appear where you can create and customize your new service.
Name your service with a clear, recognizable title — something your team and your customers will immediately understand.
Assign the service to a category that matches your service menu (e.g., Engine, Detailing, Winterization) to keep things organized.
💡 Pro Tip: Use consistent naming conventions so your estimates and invoices are easy to read!
💡The Category does not need to match exactly, so just select the closest option to your service.
Determine the pricing structure. Your pricing structure options include:
Length
Gallons
Hours
Quantity
Dimension
Set up your tax type. Your tax type options include:
Taxable
Exempt
Parts Only
Labor Only
The tax type will be set to a default based on your settings, but you have more granular control over your taxes for each service.
Write a description for the service. This description will be visible on customer estimates and invoices.
💡 Tip: You have access to AI assist to ensure your spelling and grammar are correct.
🎉 Click Save and you are done!
Your new service is added. If you want your new service to be visible to your customers from your Customer Portal, reach out to Boatyard using the support icon on the bottom right corner of any screen and we can set it visible for you, or reach out to your customer success manager and we will publish them in your portal.
Canned Services
🛠️ You can easily turn your service into a Canned Service. This means that parts and labor will be automatically added to a work order—saving you time and ensuring accuracy so you can just drag and drop a specific service into an order.
Add Parts: Search and add any standard parts required for this service.
Add Labor: Input typical labor hours and rates. Additionally, if you need to configure a service without parts but with a per-unit flat rate:
Remove Labor from the Canned Job: By excluding labor, you enable manual adjustment of the service cost.
Set the Service Cost: Define a flat rate for the service (e.g., a unit price).
Add the Service to Work Orders Multiple Times: For examples like charging per item, such as $45 per battery, this method facilitates accurate pricing by quantity.
