You Are Not Required to Link Your Bank Account

Linking your bank account is one way to verify your income, but it is typically not the only option. The property management company chooses which income verification methods they are willing to accept.

Up to Three Ways to Verify Your Income

Option 1: Link Your Bank Account

You can connect your bank account securely through Plaid (a third-party financial data service used by BoomScreen). Plaid connects to over 12,000 financial institutions and uses your bank account data to verify income by analyzing deposits, cash flow patterns, earnings from salaries or gig work, and projected future income.

If you choose this option, see the section below on how Plaid keeps your data safe.

Option 2: Log In Through Your Payroll Provider

If you receive a paycheck through a payroll platform, you can verify your income by logging in directly to your payroll provider through BoomScreen. Common payroll providers include:

  • ADP

  • Gusto

  • Gig-economy providers like GrubHub, Uber, etc.

  • Other supported payroll platforms

Option 3: Upload Income Documents Manually

If you prefer not to connect any accounts, you can upload income documents directly to your BoomScreen application. Accepted document types include:

  • Pay stubs

  • Bank statements

  • W-2 forms (Wage and Tax Statements)

  • Offer Letters

Uploaded documents are automatically reviewed, parsed, and checked for fraud by BoomScreen's document verification system.

How Does Plaid Protect My Financial Data?

If you choose to link your bank account or payroll provider, BoomScreen uses Plaid to handle that connection securely. Here is how Plaid protects your information:

  • Bank-level encryption — Plaid uses industry-standard encryption to protect data.

  • You connect directly to your bank — Plaid creates a secure, direct connection between you and your financial institution. BoomScreen never sees or stores your bank login credentials.

  • Your data is used only for verification — the information retrieved from your bank account is used solely to verify your income for your rental application. It is not sold or shared beyond what is required for the application process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Income Verification

Will linking my bank account give BoomScreen access to my full account?

No. When you link your bank account through Plaid, BoomScreen only receives the income-related information needed to verify your application — such as deposit history and cash flow data. BoomScreen does not gain access to make transfers, view unrelated transactions beyond what is needed for income verification, or store your bank login credentials.

What if I have non-traditional income, such as freelance or gig work?

Plaid's income verification can identify earnings from gig work, freelance income, and multiple income streams — not just traditional salaried employment. If you have non-traditional income, linking your bank account through Plaid may actually provide a more complete picture of your earnings than uploading a single pay stub.

What if none of the three options work for my situation?
