Boom now supports running identity verification with Persona as an alternative vendor. Persona offers a robust and thorough identity verification that is also optimized for making it easy for your applicants to complete. You can also pair Persona's IDV with a brand new offering, Persona's TIN verification, to check SSNs and ITINs directly against IRS records, the clearest signal you can get on an applicant's TIN.
Why choose Persona
Persona's optimized applicant flow has shown a 93% completion rate for applicants who have started identity verification.
Applicants can complete the selfie check on a webcam, not just a phone. The selfie check confirms liveness by comparing a real-time image to the photo on their ID.
Using the new TIN verification, Persona allows property managers to verify ITINs which was previously a gap.
TIN verification adds a direct IRS check on SSNs and ITINs to provide an even more reliable check for fraudulent and mistyped tax identification numbers.

Add TIN verification (optional)
TIN verification runs a direct check against IRS records using the applicant's SSN or ITIN. Because it verifies against the IRS rather than a public database, it is a stronger signal than a standard database check, and it can verify ITINs that database checks cannot.
Each check runs three tests: name comparison, deceased detection, and invalid format detection. TIN verification is an optional add-on available whenever Persona is on, with an additional charge for each successful check (Figure 2). It is off by default.
Navigate to Screening settings
Select the template you want to update
In the Identity verification section, select Persona
In the TIN verification section, turn the toggle on
View TIN verification results
On the applicant's report (Figure 3), the TIN verification section shows one of three states:
Passed: all three checks cleared.
Failed: one or more checks did not pass.
Skipped: the applicant does not have a US TIN, so the check could not run.
If IRS records are temporarily unavailable, the check will show an error and may retry automatically.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost? The cost of using Persona for identity verification is the same as it always has been. TIN verification is an extra charge. If an applicant does not have an SSN or ITIN, you will not be charged for the TIN verification.
Does TIN verification run on every applicant? Yes, it runs on every applicant who has an SSN or ITIN. Unlike a standard database check, which relies on public data, TIN verification checks directly against IRS records, so it catches issues a database check can miss. For example, an SSN can clear the database check but still belong to someone who is deceased, which TIN verification will flag.
What happens if an applicant has no US TIN? TIN verification shows as Skipped, and the rest of the identity check proceeds as normal.
Can applicants complete the selfie check on a computer? Yes. Persona supports a webcam or a phone.
