Understand the workflows associated with a Production Order in Bottleneck.

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Bottleneck's Production Order feature organizes your manufacturing schedule by automatically outputting the necessary work orders for your targeted output. The Production Order can be seen as the 30k foot view of your manufacturing operations. This feature provides a dashboard that enables you to easily monitor the status and details of each Work Order underneath the Production Order and track your total output of items to produce. The Production Order also provides your customer (if you allow them access) with a high-level view of your production progress and serves as their portal into your manufacturing process.

Creating a Production Order

Bottleneck's Production Order connects your sales and manufacturing operations. There are two methods to generate a Production Order. The first is directly from the Production Order tab which allows you to draft Production Orders which aren’t aligned to a specific Sales Order or any other reason you may need to. The second method is generating a Production Order within an existing Sales Order, which aligns production directly with customer demand, ensuring efficient resource utilization and timely fulfillment of orders.

How a Production Order Progresses

Bottleneck provides a status function to monitor the progression of your Production Orders. A Production Order starts in the DRAFT status, indicating it's still editable and not finalized. Once planning is in place, it moves to the SCHEDULED status, signifying pre-production preparations. With the commencement of production, the status shifts to IN-PROCESS, where it remains until production concludes. Upon completion, the status updates to COMPLETED. Bottleneck also accommodates changes in plans with the option to shift the status to CANCELED if the order is called off or DELETED if it needs to be removed from the system.
