Manage teams that play across state lines (removing duplicate primary teams)

How to fix the multiple teams issue for Bound Admin Personnel

Written by Avery Petersen

Overview
Bound allows schools to play across state lines using the same team (level) by creating a secondary season in another state’s association.
Each team level should have only one primary season/association.
If multiple primary seasons exist, it causes duplicate teams on the school’s Program Page — these must be cleaned up by a Bound Admin.

This issue is common for schools near state borders that compete out of state.

Viewing Teams

  1. Go to the School’s Program Page.

  2. Click the Program for the sport.

  3. Select Settings → Teams.

You’ll see two tables on this page:

Top Table – What Schools See

Displays all teams the school has set up.

Example:
A Boys Basketball program shows two Junior Varsity teams.

  • The first JV team lists Iowa (primary), Minnesota, and South Dakota — correctly set up with secondary associations.

  • The second JV team lists only South Dakota, meaning it was set up as a separate primary team.

Bottom Table – What Bound Admins See

Bound Admins see team associations color-coded:

  • Green = Primary association

  • Yellow = Secondary association

Each team should have only one green (primary) association.
In our example, JV has a green “Iowa” (correct) and another JV has a green “South Dakota” (duplicate). The “South Dakota” team must be deleted.

Deleting a Duplicate Primary Team

  1. In the bottom table, click the green “South Dakota High S...” team.

Click on "**South Dakota High S...**"
  2. Before deleting, verify:

    • No scheduled games: Check the Overview tab.

      • If games exist, edit each event (from the host) and reassign it to the correct team.

    • No roster: Check the Roster tab.

  3. If both are empty:

    • Go to Settings (horizontal task bar) → scroll down → click red Delete to remove the team from that association.

Click on "**Delete**"

Adding a Secondary Association (Out-of-State Play)

If a team competes in another state (e.g., South Dakota), add that as a secondary association under the correct team.

Note: Merging is not available, so delete duplicates first, then add the secondary season.

Example:

  • The first JV team already has a yellow “South Dakota” (secondary) association — no action needed.

  • The JV Reserve shows two teams: one for Iowa/Minnesota, another for South Dakota.

    • Delete the extra South Dakota primary team.

    • Then add South Dakota as a secondary season under the Iowa JV Reserve team. Since merging is not available at this time, we first need to delete and then add the out of state association as a secondary season under the correct team.

Click on "**Iowa High School At...**"

To Add a Secondary Season

  1. Click the green primary association team (e.g., Iowa JV Reserve).

  2. Go to Seasons → Add Season (top right corner).

    Click on "**Seasons**"

    Click on "**Add Season**"

  3. Find and select the out-of-state association (e.g., “South Dakota High S…”).

Click on "**South Dakota High S...**"

  4. Return to the Program Page and refresh — all associations should now appear under one team.

✅ Result:
All state associations now display under a single team at the correct level, ensuring clean program pages and accurate scheduling.
