💡 Tip: Before you start the import, here are a couple of tips to bear in mind:
You can start the import process, navigate away and send invites at a later stage.
You can cancel your import at any time by clicking the Cancel import button. You can then start the import again.
Read Step 5 for further information.
Here’s a short video showing how to upload and review users:
Follow the below step-by-step instructions to import new users via spreadsheet straight onto your school’s account.
Step 1: Download the relevant import template and complete the Import new users page
Go to School Settings (selectable in the top right dropdown) > Import Users via Spreadsheet > Import new users.
Download the relevant user import template by user type. You can choose to upload Students, Students and Parents, Parents, Advisors or Report Writers. You can use either .xlsx or .csv file format for the upload.
Next, fill out all required columns on the template with the relevant details.
If you have a large number of students with different advisors, it is recommended to create multiple templates per assigned advisor, upload each template and assign the relevant advisor to ALL students. The advisor profile must already exist on BridgeU before the upload process.
When importing new students, there are additional drop-down fields on the Import new users page for your review:
Select a graduating year for students in the file: This is a required field and a great option to use when all students have the same graduating year. If the students have different graduating years, this information will only be used for students with blank graduating year fields on the upload template.
Assign an Advisor for ALL students in your file (optional): This section is optional and can be left blank if assigning arrangements have not been confirmed yet or if the advisor’s account has not been created. If no advisor is assigned then students will be uploaded without an advisor but don’t worry, you can adjust this in the Students tab after the upload. Once you have filled out the relevant fields on the template and on the Import new users page, click Start Import.
Step 2: Upload file
Drag and drop the file OR browse your device to upload the completed .xlsx or .csv file to this page.
Step 3: Review and Confirm the data
At this stage, you’ll review all users ready to be imported.
1. Check your import summary
View all users listed under Ready to import
If needed, switch to the Act on users tab to review flagged records
2. Fix any flagged issues (if applicable)
You may see issues such as:
Invalid email addresses
Duplicate emails already imported
Missing required fields
You don’t need to re-upload your file.
Instead:
Edit the details directly in the Act on tab
Click Check and save for each updated user
3. Continue the import
Once all issues are resolved, click Continue to final step (bottom left)
Or proceed without fixing flagged users (only “Ready to import” users will be included)
Step 4: Preview invite email
This step lets you confirm details before sending registration emails.
1. Review import summary
Check how many users are ready to import
Review any users marked as not ready (if applicable)
2. Preview the invitation email
View the email that will be sent to users
3. Choose how to send invites
You can:
Send invites now → emails are sent immediately
Schedule invite → choose a future date for sending
Once scheduled, the invite date cannot be changed or cancelled.
Step 5: Previously imported records
You can return to previously uploaded files at any time.
In the Previously imported records section, you can see:
