Guide eligibility helps outfitters organize who can guide each trip type based on experience or certification. Eligibility is set by you, the outfitter, on a per-experience basis — so a guide may be eligible for some trip types and ineligible for others, and ineligible guides remain available to assign when circumstances call for it.
Good to know: When you create a new experience, guides start out ineligible for it until you mark them eligible. So if a guide shows as ineligible for a trip, it usually just means this one-time setup step hasn’t been completed yet for that experience — not that the guide is booked, unavailable, or that anything is wrong. It’s a setting you control.
There are two ways to set guide eligibility:
Method 1: From the Guides section (one guide at a time, with payout setup)
Use this when setting up a single guide — you can set eligibility and payout rates for each experience in the same place.
Under Platform, click Guides from the left sidebar.
Open Manage Payout by either:
Clicking the card icon in the Actions column on the right side of the guide’s row, or
Clicking into the guide’s profile and selecting Manage Payout in the top right.
In the guide’s Experiences and Payments Configuration, you’ll see the list of your experiences. Eligibility is the leftmost column — toggle it eligible or ineligible for each experience that guide runs.
While you’re here, set the guide’s payout rate for each experience they run. The rate only auto-fills during Pay Guides when it’s set for that specific experience — an eligible guide with no rate configured will show a blank or $0.00 payout amount.
Method 2: From the Experiences page (multiple guides and experiences at once)
Use this for bulk setup — like launching a new experience or onboarding several guides at the same time.
Under Products, click Experiences from the left sidebar.
Click Manage Guides in the top right, beside Add experience.
In the pop-up, select one or more experiences on the left.
Select the guides who can run them on the right.
Click Confirm.
Note: Manage Guides only turns eligibility on — it won’t remove eligibility from guides you leave unselected. To mark a guide ineligible for an experience, use Manage Payout (Method 1). Payout rates are also set through Manage Payout.
When assigning guides to a trip, eligible guides appear in the main list. Guides marked ineligible for that experience are grouped under an Ineligible section and will show as Available but Ineligible — but can still be selected if needed. This keeps your preferred assignments front and center without restricting your options.
Use this feature to easily separate rookie from advanced guides and keep trip assignments organized. If every guide runs every trip, simply mark them all eligible once and the only flag you’ll watch when assigning is availability.
