Kids and teens are welcome on trips — the only real difference is that a parent or guardian signs the waiver on their behalf. Here's how to add a minor to a booking and get their paperwork squared away.
Adding minors requires the Allow adding minors as trip participants setting to be turned on in your Client settings. See How to Allow Minors as Trip Participants for setup, including optional age groups for different waivers and documents.
How to Add a Minor (Outfitter Steps)
Open the booking and select the option to add a guest manually.
In the Client info panel, turn on This client is a minor. The Email field is optional for minors — no placeholder address needed.
If your organization uses age groups, select the age group that fits the guest (for example, Kids or Teens).
Complete the guest entry and save.
How Clients Add a Minor Themselves
Clients can add minors themselves when inviting guests through their itinerary or client portal.
From the itinerary, scroll to Guests and click Invite and manage guest.
Under Add new guest, enter the guest's First name and Last name.
Turn on This guest is a minor. Email becomes optional for that guest.
If you have set up age groups, Select age group appears and must be chosen before the guest can be saved. The options and age ranges shown are the ones defined in your Client settings — if you haven't added any age groups, this step doesn't appear.
Finish the guest entry and save.
Because the age group controls which waivers, documents, and questionnaires are required, this keeps the minor's pre-trip tasks accurate without anyone on your end stepping in. You can always add the minor yourself using the steps above.
Completing Waivers and Required Tasks for a Minor
Once the minor is added, the parent or guardian can use the itinerary link to complete any required tasks — like signing a waiver — on the minor's behalf. So if you're wondering how an underage angler signs a waiver: a parent or guardian signs for them.
The Age group column in Product Settings controls who is required to complete each waiver, document, or questionnaire. An item tagged Adult only needs to be completed by adults — minors are only required to complete items tagged for their age group (or for all age groups).
Handling Checklist Items (Waivers, Fishing Licenses, etc.)
Minors may not be required to complete certain checklist items depending on your state's regulations. For example:
Montana: Children under 12 do not need a fishing license
To ensure pre-trip tasks are assigned correctly, make sure each checklist item is assigned to the appropriate Age Group in Product Settings. For example, if a fishing license isn't required for younger children, assign that checklist item only to the applicable age group so it isn't created for minors who are exempt. If you're unsure which age groups should be required, check your state's current regulations.
