Some trips include kids and teens who don't have their own email address, or who need different waivers and documents than adults. Brindlechute lets you mark clients as minors and organize them into age groups so the right requirements apply automatically.
Turn On Minor Support
Click your Outfitter logo in the top-left corner, then select Settings.
Click the Client settings tab.
Scroll down to the Minor section.
Turn on Allow adding minors as trip participants.
Once this is on, clients can be marked as minors when they are created.
Clients marked as minors do not need an email address — even if your Client settings require emails for everyone else. A minor without an email on file will not receive client emails; trip communication goes to the booking client, typically the parent or guardian.
Set Up Age Groups (Optional)
Age groups organize your minor clients — for example, Kids and Teens — so you can apply different requirements to each. If all your minors have the same requirements, you can skip this step.
In the Minor section, under Age groups:
Click Add age group.
Enter an Age group name (required).
Set the Min Age and Max Age for the group.
The age range is a label to help you and your team pick the right group — it appears next to the group name when marking a client as a minor. Brindlechute does not verify a participant's age against it.
Who Is Required to Complete Each Document
In Product Settings, your waivers, documents, and questionnaires each have an Age group column that controls who is required to complete them:
All age groups — everyone on the booking is required to complete it (this is the default).
Adult — only clients who are not marked as minors are required.
One or more of your age groups — only minors in those groups are required.
Preview Requirements by Age Group on an Experience
The age group settings flow through to every experience that uses those documents, waivers, or questionnaires. To check how requirements land for each group:
Open the experience and click Edit.
On the Experience basic step, scroll below the document, waiver, and questionnaire selectors to View pre-trip tasks by age group.
Click a tab — Adult or one of your age groups — to see which of the experience's documents, waivers, and questionnaires are required or optional for that group.
This is an easy way to confirm your setup — for example, that a fishing license tagged Adult in Product Settings won't appear as a required task for your Kids group.
Marking a Client as a Minor
From your end: When adding a client, turn on the This client is a minor toggle in the Client info panel. If you have defined age groups, a Select age group option appears — choose the group that fits the client. The Email field is optional for minors.
From the client's end: When clients invite guests through their itinerary or client portal, the Add new guest form includes a This guest is a minor toggle, letting them add the guest without an email address. If you have defined age groups, clients also see a required Select age group field listing your groups and their age ranges — so the right requirements are applied from the moment the guest is added.
