Why is Google requesting Android mobile device verification?

  • Google requires developers to verify that they have access to an Android mobile device in order to publish apps on Google Play. This ensures that developers have the necessary tools to test their apps and to maintain app quality and security standards. Only the account owner of the Google Developer Account (GDA) can complete this verification.

Step-by-Step Guide for Verification:

1. Download the Google Play Console App on an Android Device:

  • If the company owner (the owner of the GDA) doesn't already have the Google Play Console app installed on their Android device, they will need to:

    • Scan the QR code shown in the image provided, or

    • Search for the Google Play Console app on the Google Play Store and download it manually.

2. Sign in to the Google Play Console App:

  • Once the app is installed, they must sign in using the same Google account they are using for the Google Developer Account (the same email as shown in the instructions, e.g., google-developer-android-1@bsport.io).

3. Verify Access to the Developer Account:

  • After signing in, select the appropriate Developer Account (in this case, it should be the company account).

  • Follow the instructions that appear in the app to complete the verification process on the Android device.

What to Do if the Client Does Not Have an Android Device:

If the client (the company owner) does not have access to an Android device, there are a few options:

1. Use an Android Device Temporarily:

  • The owner can borrow an Android device temporarily to complete the verification.

  • They would need to install the Google Play Console app, sign in with their account, and follow the same steps outlined above.

2. Allow the Account Manager to Verify on Your Behalf:

  • The owner can provide their Google Developer Account credentials to their bsport account manager, who can complete the verification on their behalf using an Android device.

3. Purchase an Android Device:

  • If the owner frequently needs to manage Android apps, it might be worth investing in a basic Android device to handle verifications, testing, and development.

4. Contact Google Support:

  • If none of the above options are feasible, the client can contact Google Support and explain that they do not have access to an Android device. Google may provide an alternative verification method or offer further guidance.

5. Emulate Android:

  • Another option is to use an Android emulator on a computer. Tools like Android Studio provide virtual devices that could potentially be used to run the Play Console app. However, this approach is less reliable and may not be officially supported by Google for verification purposes.
