If your organization uses a custom domain (e.g. from GoDaddy, Squarespace, etc.), you’ll need to verify it in the Google Play Console to link your website to your app.
🎥 First: Watch the Video Tutorial
Before starting, we recommend watching this short video guide:
📘 Then: Follow the Step-by-Step Instructions Below
Use the instructions below to complete the domain verification in Google Play Console.
Step 1: Log in to Google Play Console
Once logged in, you will see a message prompting you to verify your organization’s website.
On the right side, click on the Details option.
Scroll down until you see two options: Go to Search Console and Verify Website.
First, click on Go to Search Console.
Step 2: Access Google Search Console
You will be redirected to the Google Search Console page.
Click Start now.
Again, you will be directed to another page.
Before proceeding, check the email address in the top right corner of the page.
Make sure this email matches the email used to create your Google Play Console account.
To verify which email you used for Google Play Console, go to Users and Permissions in your Play Console.
Step 3: Choose Verification Method
In Google Search Console, you will see two verification options:
Domain
URL Prefix
Since you have a custom domain, choose the Domain option.
Enter your domain name without the “https://” or “www”. For example: example.com.
Click Continue.
Step 4: Add TXT Record to Your DNS
You will get a TXT record code to add to your domain’s DNS settings.
If your domain provider is GoDaddy, you may be able to do an automatic verification.
Otherwise, select Any DNS provider.
Copy the TXT record provided (it will look like a string of letters and numbers).
Step 5: Add TXT Record to Your Domain Provider
Open a new browser tab and go to your domain provider’s help center (e.g., GoDaddy Help Center, Squarespace Help Center).
Search for “Add TXT record”.
Follow the instructions to add the TXT record to your DNS settings.
Usually, you will:
Go to your domain management or DNS settings page
Add a new TXT record
Paste the copied TXT record into the value/points-to field
Leave the name/host field empty or use “@” (depending on provider)
Save the record
Step 6: Wait for DNS Propagation
DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally.
Do not panic if verification fails immediately.
Some providers may take up to 72 hours.
After waiting, return to Google Search Console and click Verify.
Step 7: Confirm Website Ownership in Search Console
If verification is successful, you will see a green confirmation message.
This means your ownership is validated.
Note the difference between validation and verification — for Google Search Console, validation confirms ownership.
Step 8: Finalize Verification in Google Play Console
Return to Google Play Console.
Click on Verify Website.
Scroll down to the Organization Website section.
Make sure the website URL matches exactly the domain you verified in Search Console.
Ensure the email on the top right matches the one used in Google Play Console.
Click Send Verification Link.
This option is only available if you are the account owner.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you see an error, double-check that:
The emails used in Google Search Console and Google Play Console are the same.
The website URLs match exactly (no missing letters or typos).
If needed, delete the organization website URL and re-enter it correctly.
If verification still fails, wait 48-72 hours and try again.
