Google Fit Transition to Health Connect

Google is deprecating Google Fit APIs in 2026.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Google plans to deprecate Google Fit APIs that have long served as a connection medium to access tracking data by 3rd Party Apps.

Health Connect has taken over as a preferred medium to access steps and distance data from the Google Fit App that in-turn gets data from the phone's built-in pedometer, or wearables (example Wear OS).

Please note: The Google Fit App itself is not being discontinued, deprecation is limited to Google Fit APIs.

There is no major impact of deprecation on Healthy Cities and the connecting apps (Google Fit, Samsung Health).

The device connection option (Wear OS by Google via Google Fit) has been removed from Healthy Cities App to support Google’s transition.

Though Google Fit APIs are expected to work until 2026, it is best advised to connect your device / wearables using Health Connect through Google Fit App, in case you are connected to Healthy Cities via Wear OS by Google via Google Fit option.

Please see this guide to learn how to connect with Health Connect through Google Fit App.
