Note: We use "Program" and "Member" as label-agnostic terms to refer to any marketing you are using Buzzbassador to facilitate, whether you refer to it as an affiliate program, influencer marketing, ambassador program, referral program, creator partnerships, brand reps, partner program, etc.

Your member's codes are the most important part of your program because the codes are what your members use to promote you (and the codes are how you track their sales!). Here is everything you need to know about these codes, how they are created, where to find them, and where to edit them.

How are the unique member referral codes created?

1. You set the Referral Rule in your settings

In Main Menu> Programs, you create a "referral rule" for your member referral codes. This rule tells our app what discount rate you want the unique codes to take off, among other settings. For each program tier you have, there is one referral rule that contains all the codes for the members in that particular tier. So, you may have multiple referral rules. Read more about how to configure this setting here.

2. This Referral Rule is created in your Shopify discounts list

You will then see that our app created the Referral Rule(s) in your Shopify discounts list. Inside this rule is where your members' individual, unique codes will appear.

3. The member chooses their code in their application

When a member applies for your brand's program using the application form you create, they will have the opportunity to provide their desired discount code name in a required field that says, "Create Your Referral Code"

We allow the members to choose/create their own codes (A) to make it easier on you (your members won't have to ask you to change their code if they don't like it!), (B) so your members will more easily remember their code, and (C) so that your members' codes are more concise and meaningful than just a random string of characters, which is what a lot of other apps create.

4. Our app creates the code

If the code the member requests in their application form is available in your Shopify store discounts (as all codes must be unique), then our app will automatically generate that member code for them and it will be active on your Shopify store as a discount code. You will be able to find it within the referral rule you created in step 1. Just click the price rule in Shopify to open it, and click the button that says "View All Codes".

This will open a list of all of your members' unique codes!

Where do I find the unique codes in my Shopify account?

Your referral codes are found within the referral rule that you created in your Buzzbassador settings. To find them:

1. Identify your referral rule

Go to the Main Menu > Programs, and figure out the name of the active referral rule for your Member Referral Codes. It's the text you see in the "Referral rule title" field. In the example below, the price rule is "Ambassador codes".

2. Open the referral rule in your Shopify discounts list

Go to Shopify > Discounts and search the referral rule title. Then click the referral rule to open it.

3. Click "View all codes" at the top

Once you open the referral rule, there will be a "View all codes" button. Once you click this, a list will open that shows you all of your members' unique codes.

How do I edit one of my member's codes?

Let's say a member wants to change the code that they chose, or the original code they wanted wasn't available. You can always change the code in Buzzbassador from the Members page. Just click the edit icon by that code.

After you click the edit icon, you will notice it will change into a check icon. Type in the new referral code and then click the check icon to save it.

Make sure the code you are changing it to is unique (meaning that it's not already a code in your Shopify store), or you will get an error message. All discount codes must be unique -- Shopify's rules.

Can my members edit their own codes?

Yes! Members can edit their own referral code any time from their Buzzbassador account, which they can log into here. They just need to go to Settings (โš™๏ธ) > Referral Settings, and click the yellow pencil icon next to their Referral Code.

This will bring up a 'Change Your Referral Code' pop-up. They'll just type their new code into the field, and click the yellow 'Update Code' button.

This will update the code in the merchant's Shopify account and Buzzbassador account.
