View and Manage Text Conversations

Review incoming text messages and respond to users directly from the portal

The Text Conversations page allows you to view and respond to replies from users who receive text messages through CampusESP in one continuous thread. Conversation threads are automatically created when a user opts into receiving text messages in your platform. Learn to use the Text Conversations page to review incoming messages, manage unread conversations, and continue communication directly with users.

Text messaging in CampusESP requires the Text Messaging solution. If your institution has not purchased this solution, you will not have access to the text messaging feature.

Visit the Text Conversations page

From the admin area, navigate to the Text Conversations page by clicking Text Conversations in the Content area of the left menu. You can also navigate directly to the Text Conversations page by visiting https://[your-portal-url].campusesp.com/admin/text-conversations.

Understand the Text Conversations page

The Text Conversations page includes a list of all conversations associated with your portal. Conversations are ordered based on the most recent activity, making it easier for you to prioritize active communication. You can also use the search bar at the top of the conversation list to search for a conversation with a specific user.

Review unread conversations

When a user sends a new reply, the conversation will appear as unread until it has been opened by an admin. Unread conversations are visually indicated with a badge so you can quickly identify messages that may need a response.

Unread indicators help you quickly identify conversations that may need attention or follow-up. Because text messages are often used for urgent or time-sensitive communication, users may expect faster responses than they would through email.

Reply to a conversation

Select a conversation from the list on the left to review the full message history and continue the conversation. When a conversation is selected, the full message history with that user opens in the main area of the page, along with a message composer for you to send a response.

Messages are displayed chronologically within the conversation so you can understand the full context before responding. Replies sent from the platform remain associated with the same conversation thread, allowing ongoing communication with the user over time. To reply to a user, type your response in the text area at the bottom of the conversation thread, then click Send.

Understand how text conversations work

A text conversation begins when a user opts in to receiving text messages from your platform. The first message in the conversation thread will be the opt-in message. All text messages sent from your platform for which a user matches your selected targeting will appear in that user’s text conversation history.

When a user replies to a text message, their response will continue the conversation thread. Replies from a single user remain grouped within the same conversation thread, allowing you to maintain a continuous conversation with them instead of managing disconnected messages.
