There are two approaches to moderating Discussion Boards - hands off and hands on. Discussion Boards utilize built-in AI moderation, so that all discussion posts and comments, including images, are automatically scanned for inappropriate or offensive content. AI flagged content is automatically removed from the Discussion Board, without being posted to users, making moderation an effortless process for your team! On average, admins spend less than 30 minutes a month moderating Discussion Boards!
Hands Off Approach to Moderation
Read Through Your Activity Digest
Admins that have digest notifications on will get an email daily or weekly called “Your Daily Discussion Board Activity Digest.” In this email, you can see the following summary since your last digest:
New posts
New comments
Reported content
AI flagged content
Below that, you’ll find recent activity with links to each associated post.
Review Your “Activity” Page
Go to the Activity page by clicking on the “Discussions” icon. You can also get here by clicking the “View all Activity” button at the bottom of your digest.
NOTE: All posts and comments will automatically be reviewed by AI, saving your team time!
From the Activity page, you can use the status dropdown to sort by Approved, Rejected, or All Discussions. Posts and comments are differentiated by the icons to the left. You can use the "Override" button to manually update content to be approved or rejected.
NOTE: Rejected posts or comments are visible to the original creator, but invisible to all other users!
Review User Reported Content
Admins that have notifications on for reported content will get emailed whenever there is new content reported.
Each report allows you to:
Review: This will bring you to your Activity page to get more information about the reported content.
Reject Post: This will immediately remove the content from the Discussion Board.
Ignore Report: This will keep the content visible.
NOTE: The Activity page will include any notes that explain why the user reported that content.
Hands On Approach to Moderation
A more hands on approach to moderation would involve reading through your Activity Digest, reviewing your Activity page (including user reported content), plus the following:
Moderating Directly From the Discussion Board
Admins can add their own comments to answer questions from families. All admins have a verified badge, so families know that this is official information from your institution.
💡 Pro Tip Click “Reply” to nest your response within an original comment.
Additionally, admins can moderate content from families by using the available “carrot” menu options.
For each post, the "carrot" icon allows users to do the following:
Report post - This is visible to both parents and admins, but is mostly used for parents to report concerning content. Nothing happens to the reported content until an admin takes action.
Hide from News Feed - This is visible to admins only, and hides the specific post from the Discussion Boards reminder that parents will see throughout their newsfeed and newsletter.
Reject post - This is visible to admins only, and immediately removes the content from the Discussion Board.
Remove all content by this user - This is visible to admins only, and immediately removes all existing content associated with the user.
For each comment, the “carrot” icon allows users to:
Report comment - This is visible to both parents and admins, but is mostly used for parents to report concerning content. Nothing happens to the reported content until an admin takes action.
Reject comment - This is visible to admins only, and immediately removes the content from the Discussion Board.
Remove all content by this user - This is visible to admins only, and immediately removes all existing content associated with the user.
