Understand Advertisement Content Zone Options

CampusESP's Advertisements feature provides a multitude of options for ad placement—use this cheat sheet to figure out where you want your advertisements to display to users in either newsletters or the portal

Updated over a week ago

As part of the Advertisement creation process, you'll need to select a content zone for your ad to display. Here's a breakdown of the options you can choose when deciding on your advertisement placement in either newsletters or the portal.

Newsletter advertisement content zones

When designing a newsletter advertisement, you'll see the following options for placement within your newsletter:

  • newsletter-header-1: the first header above your newsletter

  • newsletter-header-2: the second header above your newsletter

  • newsletter-top-2x: one of two side-by-side advertisements below the header but above newsletter content (two different advertisements with the same targeting criteria and priority will both display here)

  • newsletter-bottom-2x: one of two side-by-side advertisements below newsletter content but above the footer (two different advertisements with the same targeting criteria and priority will both display here)

  • newsletter-footer-1: the first footer at the end of your newsletter

  • newsletter-footer-2: the second footer at the end of your newsletter

In addition, you'll see any custom content zones created by an Advertisement content block in an email, custom newsletter, or custom welcome email.

If you're using a custom newsletter design, you must select the relevant custom content zone or your advertisement will not be pulled into the newsletter as expected. Choosing a standard newsletter content zone will only display the ad for users who don't match the criteria for a custom newsletter and receive the default/standard newsletter.

Portal advertisement content zones

When designing a portal advertisement, you'll see the following options for placement on either the portal homepage or within a community:

  • portal-left-top: At the top of the left rail when viewing the portal

  • portal-left-middle: In the middle of the left rail when viewing the portal

  • portal-left-bottom: At the bottom of the left rail when viewing the portal

  • portal-newsfeed-top: At the top of the newsfeed when viewing the portal

  • portal-newsfeed-5th: As the 5th item in the newsfeed when viewing the portal

  • portal-community-left-top: At the top of the left rail when viewing a community

  • portal-community-left-middle: In the middle of the left rail when viewing a community

  • portal-community-left-bottom: At the bottom of the left rail when viewing a community

  • portal-community-newsfeed-top: At the top of the newsfeed when viewing a community

  • portal-community-newsfeed-5th: As the 5th item in the newsfeed when viewing a community

NOTE: The portal-community content zones will show on all community pages, not just the community targeted by your campaign. Remember that campaigns determine who sees your ads, while the advertisement itself determines where it shows.
