Custom Estimate Formats and Estimate Templates

Learn more about estimate formats in Chariot and the distinction between formats and estimate templates

Updated this week

Chariot is designed to minimize the amount of clicks you will need in order to build your custom quotes and turn your new leads into guaranteed jobs. One way this can be accomplished is through the use of estimate templates. Estimate templates can be built and saved easily in order to streamline your sales process and include charges and job details that are commonly used by your moving company.

Estimate templates are tied to estimate Formats, which allow users to alternate between estimate types so they can:

  • Uniquely configure their settings for displaying estimate details

  • Have distinct estimate terms and conditions

How to use Estimate Templates and Estimate Formats

While the two work closely together, formats and templates serve different purposes in Chariot:

  • Estimate Formats

    • Think of formats as the framework of your estimates.

    • A format determines the overall structure and style of the estimate: how information is laid out, what sections are shown to the customer, and what terms and conditions are included.

    • Formats make it possible to create different types of estimates (for example: hourly vs. flat rate, residential vs. commercial).

    • Each format can have its own unique rules for presentation, so you can switch depending on the type of job.

    • Formats can be built and saved with assistance from Chariot Support

  • Estimate Templates

    • Templates are the content presets you save within a given format.

    • A template can include commonly used charges, services, and job details that your team reuses frequently.

    • Templates speed up the quoting process because you don’t need to re-enter the same information for every new lead.

    • They “live inside” a format—so you can have multiple templates tied to the same format.

    • Templates can be built and saved through the Estimate tab within your Chariot environment

In short:

  • Use formats to define how an estimate looks and behaves.

  • Use templates to quickly prefill what goes inside that estimate.

This way, your team can maintain consistent, professional estimates while also saving time when building new quotes.
