Understanding the Messages Tab

Unlock the power of the Messages Tab to streamline communication. Learn how to navigate and make the most of your message history.

Overview

The Messages Tab in Chariot is your central hub for all customer communication on a job. As of May 2026, the tab has been fully overhauled — emails and texts now appear together in a single unified view, with search and filtering tools to help you quickly find what you need.

The Messages Tab is available directly from any job page, alongside Documents, Tasks, Automations, and other tabs.

What You'll See in the Messages Tab

Every email and text tied to a job appears here in one combined list. Each entry shows:

  • The timestamp of when the message was sent or received

  • The channel — Email or Text

  • Whether the message was sent automatically by Chariot or manually by your team

  • A reason for automated messages (for example, "Estimate Signed" or "Web Form Submitted") so you know exactly what triggered it

  • A preview of the message content on hover — click Preview on emails to see the full branded version

  • A green checkmark on outbound emails that have been successfully delivered

Search and Filter

The Messages Tab includes search and filtering tools so you can zero in on the right messages without scrolling through everything.

  • Search — type any keyword to search across all message content on the job

  • Filter by Channel — show only Emails or only Texts

  • Filter by Direction — show only Sent or only Received messages

  • Filter by Source — show only User Initiated (manual) or only Automated messages

Tip: Use the Source filter before following up with a customer to check whether Chariot already sent an automated message on your behalf — this helps avoid sending duplicates.

Sending Messages from the Tab

You can send emails and texts directly from the Messages Tab using your saved templates. Use the Send Email and Send Text buttons to compose and send without leaving the tab.

You can also view and open any attachments from past messages directly from this screen.

Making the Most of the Messages Tab

  • Before a follow-up call — scan the full message history to see everything that's been sent and received, so you're up to speed before you dial

  • Before sending a message — use the Source filter to confirm whether an automated message already went out

  • Tracking replies — filter by Received to see all inbound customer responses in one place
