Visa / Mastercard required categories on Chexy

What does "Visa / MC Only" mean?

Some payment categories on Chexy must be charged to a Visa or Mastercard credit card. You will see a blue Visa + MC Only badge next to these categories during setup. If you're currently using an Amex credit card as your default, you'll need to add a Visa or Mastercard credit card to complete these payments.

Fees, rewards, and limits

  • Processing fees and credit card rewards work the same as other card-funded payments — whether you're using a Visa or Mastercard credit card, you'll continue to earn rewards at the same rate. Some billers place rules on which credit card networks they accept. Chexy follows those rules to ensure your payment is processed correctly.

FAQs

Why are only some categories Visa required?

These rules come from billers and payment networks. Amex credit cards have restrictions that prevent them from being used for certain payment types. Using a Visa or Mastercard credit card ensures the payment is accepted and settled without issues.

How will I know in the app?

Look for the Visa / Mastercard only badge on the category screen. If you try to continue with an Amex credit card or without a Visa or Mastercard on file, Chexy will prompt you to add one or use your balance.
