Chexy’s referral program is back for 2026, allowing you to keep earning your way towards a lower processing fee. Plus, we heard your feedback loud and clear - we've added a brand new way to extend your status for another calendar year!
Here’s a full breakdown of how referrals, fees, cashback, and status extensions work in 2026.
How the referral program works in 2026
The structure is similar to last year:
You earn a referral status based on how many friends you successfully refer
Your status determines the processing fee you pay
Referred friends get $15 cashback on their first payment
You can move up statuses as you refer more people
Here’s how status work in 2026:

*Assumes you're paying with a Canadian credit card, with a base processing fee of 1.75%
How does the discount work if I'm paying with an International credit card?
If you’re currently paying a higher fee (for example, international cards at 2.5%), you'll receive the following discount:
Pink: 0.25% discount
Gold: 0.75% discount
Elite: 1.25% discount
Example:
If you’re in Gold (0.75% discount) and paying with an international card:
2.5% – 0.75% = 1.75% final fee
Is there a limit on the spend that's eligible for a discount?
Referral discounts apply to up to $50,000 in spending
This counter will start on March 1, 2026 (once our referral program has reset), and will reset to $0 at the end of the calendar year
Once you exceed $50,000, payments are charged at the standard fee for your credit card type
How does the cashback work?
Starting March 1, 2026, you'll only receive $15 cashback if you are in the Starter status
Once you move into Pink, Gold, or Elite, your reward shifts from cashback to lower processing fees
The friends you refer will always receive $15 cashback, regardless of your own status
NEW for 2026: Extend your status into 2027 🎉
We're excited to announce a new way to lock in your status for an extra year. When your friends continue making payments with Chexy, you’re rewarded with a one-year status extension, so your lower fees last even longer.
How does this work?
Your status extension into 2027 will be based on the number of completed payments your referred friends (your “crew”) make
We’ll count payments made in 2026 by friends you referred in 2026, as long as those payments are completed between January 1 and December 31, 2026.
Payments are added up across your entire crew. Your own payments do not count.
You’ll be able to see your progress directly on the Referrals page by the end of January.
How status extension works
On December 31, 2026, we’ll look at the total number of payments completed by your crew. If you meet the threshold for your current status, we’ll extend your status for another calendar year, until December 31, 2027.
Here are the thresholds:
Pink: 15 completed crew payments
Gold: 50 completed crew payments
Elite: 250 completed crew payments
All payments must be completed between Jan 1, 2026 – Dec 31, 2026. As always, a completed payment means the e-Transfer was deposited, the PAD was withdrawn, or the bill pay was sent.
Here's an example:
Ryan refers 3 friends in 2026, which puts him in Pink status. Over the course of the year, here’s how his crew uses Chexy:
Friend 1 pays rent once per month → 12 completed payments
Friend 2 pays property tax → 3 completed payments
Friend 3 pays tuition → 1 completed payment
This means Ryan's total crew payments in 2026:
12 + 3 + 1 = 16 completed payments
Because Ryan’s crew completes 16 payments, he exceeds the Pink extension requirement of 15 payments. So, his Pink status is automatically extended for another calendar year, until December 31, 2027!
What if I don’t qualify for an extension?
If you don’t meet the requirement for your current status, but you do meet the requirement for a lower status, you’ll be downgraded to that status
If you don’t meet the requirement for any status, you’ll return to Starter status on Jan 1, 2027

We know many of you worked extremely hard to convince your friends and family to sign up for Chexy and use it on an ongoing basis. In turn, we wanted to reward our best ambassadors with another year of lower fees!
