How can my roommate(s) and I pay rent through Chexy? (Rent-splitting)

Good news! You can use Chexy to pay your rent amongst you and your roommates! Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up this feature successfully:

1) One roommate will be required to first create their Chexy Account. This initial user will act as the “manager” of the household.

2) Upon creating this account, the initial user will enter their total rent amount as the portion that they alone will like to pay monthly. (For example, if an apartment’s rent is $3000 and I want to pay $2000 of that $3000, then I will have to set my total rent amount to $2000.)

3) Once this account is successfully created, this initial user can then navigate into their User Dashboard and click Settings > Rental Terms > Invite Roommates. Upon which you will enter your roommate’s email address.

4) Upon entering your roommate’s email address, they will receive an invitation link via email whereby they can sign up for Chexy and be linked to your household. (NB: the only way a user can be linked to your household is through creating an account via this invitation link. If your roommate already has a Chexy account, we suggest that they delete their account and sign up again via this invitation link.).

5) When your roommate is creating their account, their total rent amount should also reflect the portion that they alone would like to pay monthly. Using the example above in Step 2, if your roommate decides that they want to pay $1000 in rent then your contribution ($2000) and their contribution ($1000) will add up to the total $3000 rent owed to your landlord.

Note 1: Chexy will charge the amount you have listed as your rent amount and amalgamate together the charges that your roommate(s) have set. Upon which, Chexy will then proceed to send a single lump sum payment to your landlord.

Note 2: If you or your roommate chooses to pause their account, it will not pause the entire household. The other person will still be charged their part of the rent. The user who paused their account will need to manually settle their rent payment with the landlord outside of Chexy for that rent cycle.

Note 3: Rent splits in Chexy are not automatically adjustable. If you wish to change the rent split ratio, you will need to do so manually for both accounts. Adjusting the rent amount for one account will not automatically update your roommate's rent amount.

Note 4: When splitting rent among roommates, it's essential to remember that no roommate can have a rent amount of $0. The minimum rent amount is set at $250.
