How to Clock into Travel and Breaks Between Jobs

Learn how to start travel, take breaks while en route, ensure your travel time is accurately documented in Chronotek Pro.

Written by Beth Chambers

When employees are traveling between jobs, questions can come up: Was the employee driving the whole time? Did they stop for a meal break? When did they actually arrive at the next jobsite?

When employees clock into a break during travel, the break is documented within the Travel Time Card, giving administrators greater visibility into the employee's day and more control over payroll review and travel approvals. Managers can clearly see travel time, break duration, and arrival details, allowing them to verify employee activity, support accurate payroll decisions, and maintain a complete record of each trip.

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to ensure your travel, breaks, and arrival are recorded accurately every time.

Employee App

Travel begins when an employee finishes work at one location and travels directly to another jobsite.

Job A
Clock in → Complete work → Clock out → Start Travel

Travel to Job B
Drive to the next jobsite → Record break, if needed → End Travel

Job B
Clock in → Travel Time Card is created

Start Travel

Let's start by clocking out of the job, and getting ready to travel to your next jobsite.

The employee will click, "Yes, start my travel".

Confirm.

To an Unscheduled Job

When there are no schedules travel simply begins.

To a Scheduled Job

"Where are you working next"?

Choose the scheduled job and press Next. Tap "Don't see your job" to get other options.

Then click "Clock Out and Start Travel" to create the next travel card.

Traveling

While en route, travel time appears on the Home page.

Tap either Travel Time button to stop travel.

If the employee needs to take a meal or rest break before arriving, they can select "Start Break".

When done press Stop Break, and Confirm.

Then tap "I have arrived", when they are at the next job site.

New: Travel between jobs just got smarter. Employees can now start and stop meal or rest breaks while traveling between jobsites. Those breaks are recorded within the travel time card, so you can see exactly how much time was spent traveling, on break, and when the employee arrived at the next jobsite.

"I have arrived" - Select the next Job

After tapping I Have Arrived, choose how to clock into your next job. The first option is the job at your current location. You can also use a Shift PIN, scan a TimeTile to locate the job, or clock out for the day. Confirm your selection to continue.
