You can use Claap on your web browser or desktop computer. Here, we'll walk you through how to get the most out of Claap depending on your specific needs.

What is common to these two recorders?

You can record your screen, voice, and face to create instantly shareable videos with ease. Keep your team, customers, and co-workers up to date by sharing updates, asking for feedback on your latest designs, or demo your latest release.

Chrome Extension

Why use the Chrome Extension?

  • Record quickly and easily in Chrome with a two-click installation.

  • Record meetings in Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom with embedded recording controls directly in the meeting tab

  • Record video clips by choosing between screen and camera, screen-only, or camera-only capture modes, and decide to record either your full screen, your current tab, or a window.

  • Configure your audio preferences properly in Chrome to avoid common audio issues while recording meetings.

System requirements

  • The Chrome Extension is developed and tested with Chrome in mind, but the extension works on most other Chromium-based browsers such as Brave, Sidekick, etc. More info here.

Current limitations

  • You cannot record your camera when recording an application other than Chrome.

  • You cannot move your camera bubble out of your Chrome window.

  • ⚠️ When using headphones, you can only record the internal audio of a particular browser tab by recording with specific settings. Find out more here.

  • Verify microphone permissions in Chrome to ensure that Claap is allowed to use the microphone. Navigate to chrome://settings/content/microphone, select the correct input device, and confirm permissions for claap.io.

Download the Chrome Extension

You can download the Claap Chrome Extension on the Chrome Web Store. For more information about installing the Claap Chrome Extension, check this article.

Update the Chrome Extension

By default your Chrome browser will download and install extension updates automatically. We regularly push bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features.

Claap Desktop App for Mac

You can use Claap on your Mac as a downloadable desktop application. Here's what you need to know.

Why use the Desktop App?

  • Perfect for recording video clips, this option allows you to record with your camera bubble placed anywhere you like on your desktop.

  • It does not need to have your browser open.

  • Choose between screen and camera or screen-only capture modes.

  • Record either your full screen or an application window.

System requirements

  • MacOS only with OSX 10.15 minimum.

Current limitations

The following features are not available in the current Desktop App:

  • ⚠️ System sound recording: the app does not record system sound coming from your computer. It should not be used with headphones.

  • Full cam mode

  • Offline recording

  • When selecting to record a specific application — as opposite to the entire screen — the camera bubble won't appear on the final video

  • To mitigate audio capture issues, avoid using earphones with the Claap desktop app. Instead, use the Chrome extension or calendar-linked meeting recorder.

Troubleshooting Audio Issues in Claap

When encountering audio-related issues with Claap, try the following:

  1. Verify Microphone Permissions

    • On macOS: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone, and ensure Claap and Chrome are toggled ON.

    • In Chrome: Navigate to chrome://settings/content/microphone, select the correct device, and allow claap.io to use the microphone.

  2. Switch Recording Tools

    • If using earphones leads to audio problems, switch to the Claap Chrome extension or the calendar-linked meeting recorder for more reliable audio capture. These steps can resolve most audio-related problems. For persistent issues, visit Claap Support or contact support for help.
