How to set up automated pricing rules

Setting up automated pricing in Clay involves three main steps: creating pricing rules, configuring how they display, and mapping them to customer groups. This guide focuses on the first step: creating automated pricing rules.

Step 1: Creating automated pricing rule

  • From your Shopify admin, navigate to Clay's homepage and click 'Pricing' in the left-hand navigation menu

  • Click the 'Create pricing rule' button in the top right corner

  • In the 'Select pricing type' pop-up, choose 'Automated pricing'

Step 2: Configuring automated pricing rule

2.1 Pricing rule name

Enter a clear name in the Pricing rule name field (e.g., "Automated wholesale prices")

Note: This name is for your internal reference only and won't be shown to customers

2.2 Product configuration

In Product configuration, choose which products this rule applies to. You can configure the appropriate products by using the 'Include' condition or 'Exclude' condition or a combination of both of them:

2.3 Choose Pricing Type

In Pricing type, please select the type of pricing you want to set for this rule. Please refer to our guide on what these two types mean here.

2.3.1 Setting Automated Wholesale Price

In Pricing configuration:

  • Select 'Set Wholesale Pricing' in 'Pricing type'

  • Select the Pricing source: Choose either Shopify Price (your product's retail price) or Shopify Compare-at Price

  • Select the pricing rule: Choose how the B2B price is calculated from the source (e.g., Percentage off or Amount off from the source price)

  • Enter the Discount amount: Input the value for your chosen rule (e.g., enter "50" for 50% off the Shopify Price)

2.3.2 Setting Automated Quantity Price

  • Select 'Set Quantity Pricing' in 'Pricing type'

  • Select appropriate variant condition

  • Select 'Apply across all variants' if you want to allow your customers to get quantity discounts even if they have ordered different variants of a product

  • Select 'Apply to a single variant' if you want to allow your customers to get quantity discounts only when they order the set quantity of each variant the prices are configured for

  • Select the Pricing source: Choose either Shopify Price (your product's retail price) or Shopify Compare-at Price

  • Select the pricing rule: Choose how the B2B price is calculated from the source (e.g., Percentage off or Amount off from the source price)

  • Define Quantity breaks:

    • For the first tier, enter the minimum Qty (e.g., 1) and the % discount (e.g., 10%)

    • Click Add quantity break for each additional tier

    • Enter the minimum Qty and % discount for each subsequent tier (e.g., Qty 5 -> 20%, Qty 10 -> 30%). You can add as many breaks as needed.

Step 3: Mark the rule as active and Save it

  • Under Publish, change the Status dropdown from Draft to Active

  • Click the Save button in the top right corner

  • You should see a confirmation message: "Pricing rule saved successfully"

You have now successfully created automated pricing rules. The next steps involve configuring how these prices are displayed on your store and mapping the rules to specific customer groups.
