User Type Blocking

Find out more about our User Type Blocking setting

Updated over 6 months ago

User Type Blocking is a powerful feature in Click Guardian that allows you to control who sees your paid ads based on the type of visitor accessing your website. This helps ensure your advertising budget is focused only on traffic that’s relevant to your business goals.

This feature is available as part of our Professional subscription.

What Is User Type Blocking?

Click Guardian uses advanced IP intelligence to identify the nature of the network behind each visitor. Based on this, we categorise them into different user types, such as:

  • Residential

  • Business

  • Government

  • Schools

  • Public Wi-Fi (e.g. cafes, hotels, airports)

Once identified, you can choose to exclude specific types from seeing your paid ads—helping you avoid spending on traffic that’s unlikely to convert.

Why Use It?

This feature is ideal if your product or service is only relevant to certain customer segments. A few examples:

  • B2B businesses may choose to block residential users, since their services are only relevant to other companies.

  • If your business relies on direct phone enquiries, you may block public Wi-Fi users (e.g. cafe visitors), who are less likely to convert during casual browsing.

  • Local services may want to exclude government or school network traffic, as it may not align with typical buyer behaviour.

By excluding users based on their type, you're not just reducing wasted ad spend—you’re improving the overall quality of your traffic.

How It Works

Once enabled:

  1. Click Guardian will analyse each visitor's IP to determine their network type

  2. You’ll be able to select which types to block from seeing your paid ads

  3. Blocked users won’t trigger clicks or cost you money—they simply won’t see your ads at all

No extra installation or code changes are required beyond your standard Click Guardian setup.

Who Can Use This?

User Type Blocking is available exclusively on the Professional plan. If you're currently on a Standard plan and would like access, upgrade your subscription or get in touch with our team to learn more.
