Clinician Nexus is designed to help you, as a student, manage your clinical experiences from start to finish. The job shadow and observation applications available in Clinician Nexus are posted, and managed, by the clinical site coordinator. This article is intended for students who have received a direct application link.

After reading this article you will be able to...

  • Before Applying

  • Apply for Job Shadows or Observation Rotations

  • Rotation Onboarding

  • Communicate in Clinician Nexus

Before Applying

  • Before applying to clinical experiences, please be sure to select a role as a student:

If you need to access this page, click here to add/edit your role.

  • You can select the school or organization you attend(ed), work for or, if neither of those are applicable, you can select I'm not enrolled at a school:

Note: Selecting I'm not enrolled at a school will automatically assign you to Clinician Nexus Sample School.

  • You can input your discipline (observer), year of study and graduation date and select Finish:

Apply for Job Shadows or Observation Rotations

If you received a direct link to apply, click the the link once you've created your account and are logged in. You'll be directed to the appropriate application and can click start application to begin.

  • Complete the Schedule, Learning objectives, and Application steps.

  • Click Save changes at the top of the screen to save your work, and return to the application at a later time. To return to your application, simply click on the rotation card displayed on the Rotations page.

  • Click Cancel rotation if you no longer want to continue your application.

  • Click Save and submit request once your application is complete to formally submit your application to the clinical site.

Once you submit, your application will automatically transition from Unsubmitted status to Pending status:

Rotation Onboarding

If your application is accepted, your rotation will move into Onboarding status. This means you have site-specific onboarding steps to complete.

To view and complete onboarding steps:

  • Click on the clinical experience card to open the details window.

  • In the details, you can view information about your clinical rotation.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the window to access onboarding steps requiring completion.

Note: Sometimes individual onboarding steps will need to be completed by a school or clinical site coordinator. If that step hasn't been completed yet, your rotation will remain in Onboarding status until the coordinator has completed it.

Once these steps are complete and/or verified, your clinical experience will move into Ready status.

Communicate in Clinician Nexus

  • Click Add comment.

Note: all parties on the rotation will be notified when a new comment has been added.
