Automated Care Messaging determines who and how (voice, text, or email) to contact individuals based on your Organization's Communication Methods. However, you do have the ability to set a preferred contact method (or unsubscribe) for an individual.
PointClickCare EHR Users
Resident family members may request to receive messages via a different contact method (voice, text, or email). This can be done by any staff member with edit access to PointClickCare resident chart profile data within your facilities.
By default, contacts will receive your message following your organization’s preferred settings; however, you can override this for individuals requesting a different contact method. You can do so directly in the PointClickCare contact record by adding a code in the contact’s Comments field as shown here:
Open the Resident’s Chart
Select the Profile tab
In the Contacts table, click edit on the contact whose preference you wish to update
Add the requested preference code (below) to the Comments Field
Note: If you were previously adding the preference code in the Address field, it will still work, however, we recommend adding the preference code in the Comments field moving forward.
For voice: (PR:V)
For email: (PR:E)
For text (SMS) to their cell number: (PR:TC)
For do not contact (or unsubscribe): (PR:N)
To Force Voice call to cell number: (PR:VC)
Note: Preference Codes are case-sensitive, and must be in CAPITAL letters.
Note: Please be aware that the Pager Phone and Other Phone contact fields are INVALID and will be ignored by the Cliniconex platform.

Staff Communications Preferences
If you use our Staff Communications Add-on, the preference codes for staff and others can be managed from the data source by adding a column labelled "Preferred Contact Method" and applying the following codes:
For voice: (PR:V)
For email: (PR:E)
For text (SMS) to their cell number: (PR:TC)
For do not contact (or unsubscribe): (PR:N)
To Force Voice call to cell number: (PR:VC)
Unsubscribing Users
Should a family member or staff contact request to longer be contacted (Unsubscribe), use the following preference code and apply it to the contact as described above:
do not contact: (PR:N)
Using this code will signal to ACM to ignore this contact without having to remove the record from your system to prevent any future messages from being sent.

When preferences aren't set at the individual level, the method of contact will automatically be determined by Organization Contact Preferences. Learn more here.
