Billing periods and pricing

Set your subscription pricing and choose which billing cycles to offer. Once you have connected Stripe, go to the Products tab and select Plans to configure everything.

Setting up your pricing

  1. Go to the Products tab and select Plans

  2. Under Currency, select your base currency β€” this is the currency you will be paid in

  3. Choose your billing cycles and set a price for each one

Tip: To offer pricing in multiple currencies, see the Localised Payments article below.

Billing cycles

You can offer up to four billing cycles: Monthly, Quarterly, 6-monthly, and Annual. Longer billing cycles increase upfront revenue and reduce churn. Consider pricing your annual plan at 10 months' worth instead of 12 to incentivise the commitment. When a longer cycle offers better value per month, a Save X% label is automatically shown to subscribers.

Free trial

You can offer a free trial for new subscribers. Scroll down in the Plans section and enter the number of free trial days you want to offer.

Premium Annual

Toggle on Premium Annual to let supporters pay more as a show of extra support. They get the same access as a standard annual subscriber but at a higher price point.

Plans page image

You can add an image to your payment modals and upsells. Scroll to the bottom of the Plans section, click Media, and upload your image.

Selling points

The selling points shown on your plans and paywall page can be customised in the Plans section. Update these to highlight what subscribers get.

How billing cycle switching works

Switching to a longer cycle (e.g. monthly to annual)

The switch takes effect immediately. The subscriber receives a prorated credit for the unused time on their current cycle, which is applied to the cost of the new cycle.

Switching to a shorter cycle (e.g. annual to monthly)

The switch is scheduled for the end of the current billing period. Subscribers keep their existing access until their paid period ends, then the new cycle kicks in. No additional charge is made until the new cycle starts.

Cancellations

If a subscriber cancels, they retain access until the end of their current paid period. No further charges are made.

FAQ

Do I need to offer all four billing periods?

No. Offer whichever cycles suit your audience. Many creators start with just monthly and annual.

What happens to existing subscribers if I add new billing periods?

Existing subscribers stay on their current billing cycle. New options only apply to new subscriptions or when existing subscribers choose to switch.

Does the Save % tag show automatically?

Yes. When a longer billing cycle works out cheaper per month than the monthly price, the savings percentage is automatically calculated and displayed to subscribers.

Can I offer different billing periods for different tiers?

The billing periods you choose apply across all tiers.

Note: If you add new billing cycles, existing subscribers stay on their current cycle. New options only apply to new subscribers or when someone actively switches.
