Subscription tiers

Offer different levels of access to your content with multiple subscription tiers.

Overview

Subscription tiers let you create multiple plans with different levels of content access. For example, you might offer a base tier with your core content and a premium tier that includes bonus content, more educational content, or access to live events.

Tiers are entirely optional - if a single plan works for you, you don't need to set them up.

Setting up tiers

  1. Go to Plans in your dashboard

  2. Under Subscription tiers, you'll see your existing plan

  3. Click + Add tier to create additional tiers

  4. Give each tier a name

  5. Set pricing for each tier across all billing periods and currencies

Tier names are only shown to subscribers when multiple tiers are active. If you only have one tier, the name won't be displayed.

Default tier

Select which tier is shown first to subscribers by toggling Default tier (shown first to customers). This is typically your most popular or entry-level tier.

Controlling content access

With multiple tiers, you can choose which content is available on each tier. This lets you create a lower tier with limited access and a premium tier with everything included - or any combination that works for your audience.

A common approach is to offer most content on your base tier and reserve premium or exclusive content (e.g. bonus content) for higher tiers. Start simple - you can always adjust as you learn what your audience values most.

Restricting access is done on each piece of content by editing the Access settings.

Email segmentation by tier

With multiple tiers, you can target specific groups of subscribers when sending emails via text posts. For example, you could send a message just to your top-tier members, or email your base tier with an offer to upgrade.

This is available when composing text posts in your dashboard.

How tier switching works

Upgrades (moving to a higher tier)

Upgrades take effect immediately. The subscriber receives a prorated credit for the unused time on their current tier, which is applied to the cost of the new tier.

Downgrades (moving to a lower tier)

Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the current billing period. Subscribers keep their existing access until their paid period ends, then the new tier kicks in. No additional charge is made until the new tier starts.

FAQ

Do I need to use multiple tiers?

No. Tiers are entirely optional. If a single plan works for you, you can ignore this feature entirely.

How do I add content to a tier?

Head to any piece of content and open it up to adjust the Access settings or set the Access settings at the time you publish.

What happens to existing subscribers if I add new tiers?

Existing subscribers stay on the base tier. New tiers only apply to new subscriptions or when existing subscribers choose to switch.

Can I change tier names?

Yes. You can rename tiers at any time in your Plans settings.

Can I offer a free tier?

Each piece of content has the ability to toggle if content is available for free.
