Units: metric, US and UK

Show weights, measurements and distances in kg and cm, in pounds and inches, or in stone. Here’s how units work for you and your clients.

Coachway supports three unit systems: Metric, US and UK. You choose the units for your account, and each client can have their own. Changing units only changes how numbers are shown, never the data itself.

UK is a mix on purpose. Body weight is in stone and lb, and measurements and distances are imperial, but workout weights and recipes stay in kg and grams, as most UK gyms and food labels use them.

Your data is always safe

Everything is saved in kg, cm and km behind the scenes, and only converted when it’s shown. So you or your client can switch units at any time without changing any weigh-ins, measurements, workouts or recipes. A client who logged 80 kg sees 176.4 lb after switching to US, and 80 kg again if they switch back.

Set the units for your account

Your account’s units decide what you and your team see.

  1. Go to Settings → Account → Business

  2. Under Units, choose Metric, US or UK

Your account’s units apply to:

  • The coach platform on the web

  • The coach app

  • PDFs of workout programs

Set the units for a client

Each client sees the app in their own units, which don’t have to match yours. A Danish coach can have a UK client who sees stone and miles while the coach keeps seeing kg and km.

You can set it for your client:

  1. Open the client and go to their Client settings → General

  2. Choose their units

Or your client can change it themselves:

In the app, under Profile → Personal Information → Units.

Units for new clients

New clients and new accounts start in the units of their country:

  • USA starts in US

  • UK starts in UK

  • Everyone else starts in Metric

Clients from the USA, the UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia are also asked which units they prefer when they set up the app, so they can pick the right one from day one.

PDFs

  • A workout program PDF you create yourself follows your account’s units.

  • A PDF created for a client follows that client’s units and language, so it matches what they see in their app.

Good to know

You and your client can see different numbers for the same thing. If you use Metric and your client uses US, you see their weight in kg and they see it in lb. It’s the same weigh-in shown two ways.

Custom metrics are not converted. Units only apply to Coachway’s own fields, such as weight, measurements and steps distance. If you created a custom metric with a unit you typed yourself, it stays as you set it up.
