Learn how to apply the CopyLeaks plug-in in your course.

Procedure

Assignments and Forums

  1. Click the activity link on your course page.

  2. Go to Settings.

Assignment tabs with arrow pointing to Settings tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Copyleaks section and expand it.

Expanded Copyleaks section with list of different settings.

  4. Ensure that Enable Copyleaks is checked.

  5. Configure submission scanning behavior:

Leave unchecked: Submit files only when students click the submit button. This allows Copyleaks to begin scanning as soon as a file is uploaded or saved.

    • Students may see similarity reports before the due date if report access in enabled.

    • This supports drafting and revision before final submission.

If the box is checked, Copyleaks will wait until the student clicks Submit assignment to scan. Draft uploads will not be scanned.

  6. Leave When to generate report? set to Generate reports immediately.

  7. Enable Allow students access to plagiarism reports.

  • When enabled: students can view similarity and AI reports (they may need to refresh the page).

  • When disabled: only instructors can view reports.

Use student access for drafts and formative work. Consider disabling for high-stakes assessments.

8. Click Edit scan settings to adjust options such as grammar checks and excluding reference lists.

Additional settings for content detection such as grammar corrections and filters.

9. (Optional) Click View Analytics to see class or individual submission trends.

Important Guidance

Copyleaks is a review and instructional tool, not a final determination of academic misconduct. Similarity percentages and AI indicators should always be interpreted in context, including citations, quotations, assignment design, and the student’s overall writing.
