This tutorial explains how to add source documents to an assignment in CodeGrader. Source documents act as reference material for grading and feedback, especially useful in DBQ (Document-Based Question) tasks or assignments where students must cite or interpret specific texts.
Once uploaded, CodeGrader will automatically use these documents as part of its grading logic, helping ensure student responses are evaluated based on their engagement with the material.
What types of documents are accepted?
PDF, which can contain pictures.
DOC files. Pictures can't be read from DOC files.
Step-by-Step: Adding and Managing Source Documents in CodeGrader
Start by Creating a New Assignment
Go to your assignment creation screen.
Under the Assignment Details section, look for the field labeled Source Documents.
Upload Your Source Document
The field is optional, but highly recommended for tasks like DBQs.
Click Choose File and upload the relevant PDF file you want students to reference (e.g., primary source texts, articles, or historical documents).
Import Student Submissions and Grade
Click Import and Grade to start the automatic grading process.
CodeGrader will now evaluate student submissions with the source document in mind, checking for relevance, accuracy, and proper use of the reference material.
Alternatively, you can add source documents in the assignment screen:
Go to the assignment’s submission screen.
Below the assignment prompt, you’ll see a section for Source Documents.
Click the pill-shaped icon with a pencil to manage your uploaded files:
