Troubleshooting Sharing Feedback

What to check when feedback doesn't reach your students after you click Share feedback.

Written by Gabriel Chi

Feedback Doesn’t Appear in Google Classroom

What’s happening: You shared feedback, but it does not show up in the student's Google Doc or Classroom assignment.

What to check:

  • Submission must be approved: CoGrader only shares feedback for submissions marked as Approved. If a submission is still "Needs Review," feedback won’t go anywhere.

  • Try sharing again: Click Share feedback, pick the Google Classroom option in the dialog and confirm. A second try often clears up delays.

  • Google account access: Make sure the Google account you're trying to send the feedback to is where the assignment was given.

  • Grades don't appear in the Google Classroom gradebook: this is expected. Google only lets CoGrader post grades to assignments CoGrader created, so CoGrader writes the feedback into the student's Google Doc or submission file instead.

  • Check the student list in the Share feedback dialog. It shows when some students can't receive feedback, so you can see who was left out before you confirm.

The Google Classroom option isn't in the Share feedback dialog

What’s happening: You opened Share feedback, but there is no option to send to Google Classroom.

Why this happens:

  • This option is only available for assignments that were initially imported from Google Classroom. The dialog marks the option that fits how you imported your submissions with a suggested badge.

How to fix it:

  • Check that the assignment was imported from Google Classroom (Grade new, then Google Classroom), not created manually or from another platform.

  • If you created the assignment manually but now want to share to Google Classroom, you’ll need to recreate the assignment via import.

  • Classes created with the Add class button on the Classes page can't be linked to Google Classroom or any other LMS later.

Share feedback button is greyed out or unresponsive

What’s happening: You can’t click Share feedback, or nothing happens when you do.

What to check:

  • No submission approved: CoGrader only shares feedback for submissions marked as Approved. If all submissions still say "Needs Review", there is nothing to share yet. Approve at least one submission first.

  • A submission is still grading. If you see three dots (•••) next to the assignment settings, see How to Fix "Stuck" Grading or Greyed-Out Buttons.

  • You're not logged into a connected Google account

  • Internet or session timeout. Refresh the browser and try again.

  • Cache issue. Open CoGrader in an incognito window and test again.

Error messages when sharing

If sharing fails, CoGrader shows a message with a What to do step. See Understanding Error Messages in CoGrader and How to Fix Them for each message.
