What are the rules for community content?

Updated over a month ago

By using League of Comic Geeks, everyone agrees to the Terms of Use. Community conduct is a critical part of these terms. As part of the service - reviews, comments, community posts, and any other methods of voicing your thoughts are subject to these additional terms and as such we reserve the right to de-prioritize, limit or remove community content (and/or terminate users) not following these core terms:

  • You must be courteous and respectful of others' opinions.

  • You must not post unwelcome, hateful, aggressive, suggestive or otherwise inappropriate remarks.

  • You must not intimidate, threaten, harass or impersonate another user.

  • You must not request or attempt to solicit personal or identifying information from another user.

  • You must not plagiarize anyone else's writing. Write your own reviews; name, quote and link (where available) your sources.

  • You must not publish or post any offensive, objectionable, unlawful, explicit, or graphic content in any form.

  • You must not publish content that disseminates misinformation, disinformation or related manipulations, including viral sloganeering

Anti-Piracy Policy
The League of Comic Geeks exists as a platform to share our love for comics with our community of comic book readers, collectors, retailers, publishers and creators. Piracy hurts comic book publishers, retailers, and creators - which means it hurts everyone. As such, it has no place on the League of Comic Geeks.

  • You must not discuss or promote piracy or other illegal means for reading, buying, or obtaining comics.

  • Watermarks or links that reference piracy or pages directly enabling or encouraging piracy are not permitted.

AI Content Policy

The League of Comic Geeks is a platform celebrating comics and is utilized by creators, publishers, retailers, and fans. As such, posts that contains AI fan art or are AI-written may be removed. As AI can be trained to plagiarize or steal others' work, as well deceive others, we ask that you refrain from utilizing AI tools to create content.

While AI usage may be difficult to identify, we ask that our community avoid hostility when questioning the creation of artwork or text. Some users may not be as informed about the impact of AI, please use these posts as an opportunity to inform and educate users in a positive manner.

Anti-Spam / Sharing Links Policy
In an effort to ensure the community is not inundated with spam, links to outbound websites should be kept to a minimum. Excessive links accompanied by low-effort content may result in content being removed. Some additional conduct expectations around links:

  • While competition is healthy, we ask that you not discuss, share links/screenshots, or promote other comic tracking websites/apps.

  • Help ensure the League is a thriving platform for comic discussions and reviews by not posting links, invites, or discussing other communities - this includes Discord, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook groups along with other forums. We do have a community feed and a Discord of our own, feel free to use them for your activities and discussions.

  • Links to eBay auctions or other selling sites unprompted are not permitted.

Image Policy

Posting images is an integral part of any social platform and as such is greatly encouraged. With that said, there are a handful of guidelines to consider:

  • Posts containing excerpts or pages may not exceed 4 pages of a comic, unless provided officially from the publisher or creator.

  • Posts with graphic NSFW imagery will be removed.

Alternate Account Policy

We ask that the community avoid creating alternate accounts to engage in discussions, posts, and reviews. Alternate accounts may create a false sense of engagement and in some cases manipulate conversations. These accounts may be fun or funny in some context, but ultimately they can cause more harm than good.

Using alternate accounts to rate or review bomb (up or down) is similarly not permitted. In excess, this will get you permanently banned.

You may only leverage alternate accounts for additional cataloging purposes.

Review & Discussion Policy

As comic book geeks, we're all passionate! Expressing your honest opinion about a comic ensures other readers know whether to check it out or not. With that said, sometimes passion can go too far. Here are some guidelines to consider:

  • While mentioning a creator in the context of a review, discussion or post is acceptable, content that is predominantly negative sentiment about the creator's life, beliefs, or perceived behavior to troll or bait arguments, and not about the content may be removed. We ask that you similarly avoid insulting creators. They're human and comics are art that may or may not appeal to all audiences.

  • We are a welcoming and positive community for comic fans of every demographic. As such, representation is critical and deliberate attempts to chastise comic publishers or creators for improving diversity may result in content being removed. Similarly, utilizing viral sloganeering or loaded terms like "woke" to convey this criticism will also be removed. Be civil.

  • Avoid posting spoilers without the spoiler tag. If you cannot find a way to warn users of a possible spoiler, the post may be removed.

  • To ensure the integrity of our review system, we ask that users do not publish reviews for books they have not read. Reviews published with indication that the user has not read the book will be removed.

Creator Safeguards

In addition to the policies outlined above, we ask that you be courteous and respectful when interacting with creators and industry professionals on the platform.

Final Notes

Beyond these individual policies, we reserve the right to de-prioritize or remove content that is low effort or incendiary that we deem is not a good representation of our community. Intent to use this service to troll, spam, or create drama will be dealt with little tolerance.

If a post is removed, we ask that you do not re-post it or attempt to re-engage on the subject that was viewed as a violation of guidelines. These attempts are disruptive and will be removed. Concerns over moderation should be submitted via a ticket.

Should you find posts or messages that do not follow these rules, please submit a support ticket with a report including the link to the problematic content.
