What is Smart SKU Inventory Group? How to set up Smart SKU Inventory Group?

Smart SKU Inventory Group is one of the method to set up inventory group apart from Manual Group. Same purpose for the collections of existing products (or variants) used to share the same inventory quantity(base inventory). On top of this, Smart SKU Inventory Group also shares the same value in SKU field in Shopify.

How to set up Smart SKU Inventory Group?

1. Set up the SKU Fields

Make sure that all products (or variants) that are meant to have the same inventory, they also needs to share the same value in SKU field.

This online store is selling the same product: Black T-Shirt with a Cat Print and Blue T-Shirt with a Cat Print to both retail customer and wholesale customers. Since the retail and wholesale has a different pricing, they are created as different products on Shopify.

The retail and wholesale product of Black T-Shirt with a Cat Print are assigned to the same SKU value SKU-BLACK

Similarly, the retail and wholesale product of Blue T-Shirt with a Cat Print are assigned to the same SKU value SKU BLUE

2. Smart SKU Inventory Group Auto Creation

In the app's sidebar menu, click Smart Connected Groups by SKU . Click Enable button if this is the first time you use this feature to create Inventory Groups.

The app will start to scan every products and variants of your online store and automatically create new Inventory Groups based on every unique SKU number. Depends on the size of your store, the process could take up to 10-15 minutes.

Reload the browser window to see new Inventory Groups being created.

πŸš€ Pro Tips: DO NOT keep clicking the Enable or Re-Scan Button. this will freeze the process and need to contact to reset. If you're unsure, just send us an email and we're happy to assist.

Make sure to check the Inventory Group has the same starting inventory quantity

Connected Inventory support to sync inventory correctly for inventory group has the same starting inventory quantity. Please refers to Article Why the inventory is not synced? for more ideas. You can go to Bulk Editor to check and update each product (or variant) inventory with the same starting Inventory.

πŸš€ Pro Tips: You can place a test order to test the synchronisation. Please refer to Article How to test the synchronisation (Inventory Group)? for the step.

3. Re-Scan SKU

When you created new products or deleted some existing products; or if you have changed the SKU field of your existing products (or variants), you will need to Re-scan SKU to re-create a refreshed list of new Inventory Groups.
