Advertising financing: compliance guidelines for contractors

If you promote financing through Acorn Finance in any marketing channel — social media, your website, email campaigns, or printed materials — this article tells you exactly what you need to include, what to avoid, and how to stay compliant without slowing down your marketing.

Why this matters
Advertising specific loan rates or terms without proper disclosures can create legal and regulatory exposure for your business. These guidelines are designed to protect you and ensure accurate expectations for your customers.

The simplest approach: say "competitive APRs"

The easiest way to advertise financing compliantly is to avoid quoting a specific APR altogether. Instead, use general language that sets an accurate expectation without requiring a full disclosure.

Recommended language

"Offer financing with competitive APRs through Acorn Finance — apply in minutes, no dealer fees."

This approach is accurate, compelling to homeowners, and requires no rate disclosure. If you choose this route, you're done — no further steps needed.

If you advertise a specific APR

If you prefer to cite a specific rate in your marketing — for example, "rates as low as X%" — you must follow the rules below.

Step 1 — Check the current rate

Rates change. Before publishing any specific APR, visit acornfinance.com to confirm the current advertised rate. Never use a rate from a previous campaign without verifying it is still accurate.

Step 2 — Include the required disclosure

Any marketing that references a specific APR, monthly payment, or loan term must include the following disclosure verbatim:

Required rate disclosure

Rates as of [insert current date]. Advertised rates and terms are subject to change without notice. Estimated interest rates, APRs, and other terms are not binding in any way. For illustrative purposes only, if you request $10,000, you could get a total loan of $10,000 with an 8.94% interest rate and $0 fees (note, if the lending partner charges an origination fee, it will increase the APR). You would receive $10,000 with 84 payments of $161. Your actual interest rate and APR will depend on factors like credit score, requested funding amount, and credit history. Only borrowers with excellent credit will qualify for the lowest rate. Offers represent lowest monthly payment for amount and term displayed. When evaluating offers, please review the funding partner's terms and conditions for additional details. All loans and other financial products are subject to credit review and approval by our partners.

Update the date

Replace "[insert current date]" with the date you publish or last verified the rate. You are responsible for keeping this accurate.

Notes

Social media
(Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

Use "competitive APRs" language. If citing a specific rate, include the full disclosure in the post caption or a linked landing page.

Character limits on some platforms make specific-rate posts difficult to do compliantly. We recommend the general language approach here.

Your website

Disclosure can appear in a footer section or dedicated financing page. Link directly to acornfinance.com for full details.

Ideal place to host the full disclosure. Keep your financing page updated when rates change.

Email campaigns

Include disclosure in the email footer if a specific rate is cited. For general "competitive APRs" language, no disclosure is required.

Use the verified rate at time of send — not at time the email was drafted.

Printed materials
(flyers, door hangers, etc.)

Strongly recommend using general language only. Printed materials can't be updated if rates change.

If you do print a specific rate, include the full disclosure and reprint when rates change.

Paid ads
(Google, Meta, etc.)

Use general language in the ad creative. Link to a landing page that includes the full disclosure if a rate appears anywhere in the funnel.

Ad platforms also have their own financial advertising policies — review those separately.

✓ Compliant

  • Use "competitive APRs" or "flexible financing options"

  • Verify rates at acornfinance.com before citing them

  • Include the full disclosure when quoting a specific rate

  • Update the date in the disclosure when you re-publish

  • Link to acornfinance.com for full terms

✗ Non-compliant

  • Publishing a specific APR without the required disclosure

  • Using a rate from a previous campaign without verifying it

  • Guaranteeing approval or specific terms to a customer

  • Omitting the "subject to credit review" language

  • Using outdated rates on printed materials still in circulation
