💡 At a Glance

Coram’s Firearm Detection identifies visible firearm threats and instantly alerts your team. By recognizing the difference between unholstered (potentially threatening) and holstered or non-threatening objects, it minimizes false positives while ensuring safety, all integrated with your existing cameras.

⚡ Key Tasks

  • Understand pixel-per-foot (PPF) Requirements
Make sure your cameras provide adequate coverage to accurately detect firearm threats.

  • Obtain firearm detection licenses
Contact your Coram representative to enable Firearm Detection on the cameras you want to enable.

  • Review threat vs. non-threat examples
Understand how the system differentiates between safely holstered firearms, non-threatening lookalikes, and actual threats.

  • Configure alerts
Set up Firearm Detection alerts to notify your staff immediately when suspicious activity is detected.

Overview

Coram's Firearm Detection feature is a powerful security tool designed to enhance safety by identifying visible firearm threats in real time and sending contextual alerts.

Wherever Firearm Detection is enabled, it offers continuous monitoring, reducing the need for physical security checkpoints and metal detectors. This lowers staffing demands and avoids disrupting the flow of foot traffic, maintaining security without compromising safety or operational efficiency.

The feature uses advanced AI vision models to provide immediate detection and alerts, enabling swift action to address potential threats. Key details include:

  • Real-time alerts for your staff: The system sends detailed notifications as soon as it detects a firearm threat, ensuring timely intervention. To learn more about setting up a Firearm Detection alert, refer to Creating a Firearm Detection Alert.

  • Seamless integration with your cameras: The firearm detection feature works seamlessly within the Coram platform and does not require any third-party tools or hardware replacements. Just obtain a license for each camera you want to activate, and you're ready to go.

  • Real-world applications to bolster security: Common use cases include improving security at schools, stadiums, malls, and other high-risk locations, as well as helping to support law enforcement in identifying threats quickly.

Warning: For accurate and reliable firearm detection, it is vital that you ensure appropriate pixel-per-foot (PPF) values for the areas you want to monitor. For more information, refer to Understanding Pixel Per Foot (PPF) Requirements for Firearm Detection.

Performance

Firearm Detection leverages real-time, multi-layer AI processing to maximize accuracy and efficiency, and minimize false positives. This advanced technology is designed to distinguish between threatening and non-threatening scenarios:

  • Threat Detection: Identifies handguns when they are unholstered or in active shooting positions, and long firearms and rifles in either holstered or unholstered positions, ensuring immediate alerts for potential threats.

  • Non-Threat Recognition: Recognizes weapons that are safely holstered, and recognizes non-threatening objects that closely resemble firearms, avoiding unnecessary alerts when no danger is present.

By combining precision detection with contextual awareness, Coram’s solution offers reliable security while reducing disruptions from false alarms. This ensures a safer environment with fewer interruptions and more actionable notifications.

Firearm Detection Licenses

In order to use firearm detection, you need to arrange licenses for your account. Firearm detection licenses are enabled by Coram on a camera-by camera basis. Before you can use firearm detection with your cameras, you need to contact your Coram representative to agree a number of firearm detection licenses for your organization.

Pixel-Per-Foot Specifications

For accurate and reliable firearm detection, it is vital that you ensure appropriate pixel-per-foot (PPF) values for the areas you want to monitor. For more information, refer to Understanding Pixel Per Foot (PPF) Requirements for Firearm Detection.

Tip: One of the key benefits of the Coram platform is that you don't need to replace your existing cameras to take advantage of an extensive range of AI-powered features, including Firearm Detection. After you install and register the Coram Point appliance on your network, you can connect your existing IP cameras and start processing your video feeds immediately.
