INTRODUCTION

Feature Summary: During Public Bookings, CourtReserve requires players to verify their phone number by entering a text message verification code. If a player does not receive the code, the issue is typically related to carrier filtering, an incorrect phone number, or device settings. This article helps admins understand the cause and guide players through resolution steps.

Use Cases:

  • A player reports they did not receive a text verification code

  • Staff need to assist with SMS verification issues

OVERVIEW

To protect clubs from spam and fraudulent activity, CourtReserve uses SMS verification in public booking reservation and registration flows. A one-time verification code is sent to the phone number the player enters during booking. If the code is not received, the issue is almost always related to SMS delivery rather than the booking itself.

Common Reasons a Player Didn’t Receive the Code

  • The mobile carrier filtered the message as spam.

  • The device filtered the message into a spam or junk folder.

  • The phone number was entered incorrectly.

  • Poor cellular signal or delayed SMS delivery.

  • The phone number does not support SMS (e.g. landline or VoIP).

  • The player’s device blocks messages from unknown senders.

What to Tell Players to Do

Admins can guide players through the following steps:

  1. Confirm the phone number: Ensure the player entered the correct mobile number, including country code if applicable.

  2. Wait a few minutes: SMS messages may be delayed by the carrier. SMS messages are usually delivered within 10 seconds, but depending on the carrier, delivery can take up to 60 seconds.

  3. Check spam or filtered messages: Some devices automatically filter messages from unknown senders.

  4. Resend the verification code: Have the player return to the booking screen and request a new code.

  5. Try a different mobile number: If available, suggest using another number that can receive standard SMS messages.

  6. Avoid repeated attempts in a short period: Too many requests may temporarily prevent additional codes from being sent.

  7. Add the CourtReserve number to their safe senders / subscribe list: See the steps below.

How Players Can Check for Filtered or Spam Text Messages

If a player says they did not receive the verification code, the message may have been filtered or blocked by their device. Admins can guide players through the steps below based on their phone type.

iPhone (iOS)

Check for filtered messages:

  1. Open the Messages app.

  2. Tap Filters in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Spam.

  4. Look for the verification message in this list.

Mark messages as not spam (if found):

  1. Open the message.

  2. Select Recover.

  3. Select Move and Report.

Additional checks:

  • Make sure the sender is not blocked:

    • Settings → Messages → Blocked Contacts

  • Ensure Do Not Disturb or Focus Mode is not preventing notifications.

Android

Steps may vary slightly depending on device manufacturer and Android version.

Check spam or blocked messages:

  1. Open the Messages app.

  2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮).

  3. Select Spam & blocked.

  4. Look for the verification message.

Mark messages as not spam (if found):

  1. Open the message.

  2. Select Not spam.

Safe Senders List / Subscribe

If a player has completed all other troubleshooting steps and still is not receiving text validation messages during the public booking flow, they can manually add CourtReserve to their safe senders / subscribe list.

How to Reset Text Validation

  1. From the mobile phone being used for public booking, text the word START to: 1-626-238-1970

  2. This adds the number to the phone’s safe senders /subscribe list.

  3. Return to the public booking flow and resend the text validation code.
