Before creating membership types, ensure you have a clear understanding of your club’s rules, restrictions, and membership offerings so configurations align accurately with your policies and operations.
OVERVIEW
What Is a Membership?
A membership—often referred to as a membership type—in CourtReserve defines a player’s access, pricing, and permissions within your club, serving as the primary way your organization controls the member experience.
Users must have an assigned membership to access the platform, unless they are booking through public booking.

How Memberships Are Used in CourtReserve
Memberships are applied across the entire platform and power many key features, including:
Pricing: Court fees, event pricing, and discounts
Restrictions: Booking limits, event registration limits
Visibility: What members can see in the portal
Eligibility: Access to events, lessons, and programs
Reporting: Built-in filters to analyze activity by membership type
Because of this, even clubs that “don’t use memberships” still rely on them (e.g., a Non-Member / Guest membership type).
Types of Memberships
Individual Memberships: Assigned to a single member and control that individual’s experience.
Family Memberships: Assigned at the family account level and shared across all members in that family.
Important: If a member has both an individual and family membership, the individual membership takes precedence for pricing, restrictions, and access.
Membership Status & Activity
Members are considered "Active" when their membership is valid (paid or free).
Clubs can configure memberships to:
Become expired (inactive) after a set number of days without payment
Automatically cancel after extended non-payment
On each member’s profile, system users can view membership status and manage details directly within the Membership tab.
Membership Billing & Frequency
Memberships can be configured with a variety of billing cycles, including monthly, quarterly, annual, custom, or one-time pricing—allowing clubs to align offerings with their business model and member needs.
Memberships can also offer players a choice of flexible payment options, such as recurring monthly pricing or a single annual fee. Example shown here:
