Learn more about how the 1-Up/1-Down Ranking Algorithm is calculated:

Moving Up and Down in Rank

Players are re-ranked each week based on match outcomes using the following rules:

  1. After play, the four players in each group are ranked from 1 to 4, depending on the cumulative score of all games played.

  2. The first-place finisher in a group moves ahead of the last-place finisher in the group immediately above.

  3. The #1 ranked player must either play or be moved down to #2. The winner of Group 1 becomes the new #1 ranked player.

  4. Any player who is a "No Show"—defined as a player scheduled to compete who does not participate—will be recorded as finishing last in their group.

  5. Inactive players may not move above active players in the rankings. An inactive player is defined as a participant not currently engaged in league play (i.e., not registered for a given session or sessions), whether by choice, scheduling, or other circumstances. Typical reasons for inactivity include injuries, illness, or being out of town.

Explanation of Rule 5

When active players lose and drop in rank, any inactive players below them also move down. This rule is designed to reward participation while discouraging inactivity.

  • Active players are guaranteed that no inactive player can move above them in rank, regardless of match outcomes.

  • Inactive players should understand that if they do not play, their only movement is downward in the rankings.

In the example below, notice how the three inactive players each drop between one and four spots in rank.
