How to unlock your account after too many failed sign-in attempts

If you enter the wrong password too many times, your account may be temporarily locked for security reasons.

Updated this week

If your account is locked after too many failed sign-in attempts, wait for the lockout period to end (about 20 minutes). Then either sign in with your correct password or reset your password if you do not remember it.

If you know your password

  1. Stop trying to sign in for the full lockout period.

  2. Go back to the regular sign-in page after the wait time ends.

  3. Enter your email address and password manually.

  4. If you still cannot sign in, reset your password.

If you do not remember your password

  1. Stop trying to sign in for the full lockout period.

  2. Click Forgot Password.

  3. Enter the email address on your account.

  4. Use the reset link in the email to create a new password.

  5. Return to the sign-in page and sign in with the new password after the lockout period ends.

If you still cannot sign in

  • Check that you are using the right email address.

  • Try typing your password instead of relying on autofill.

  • If you see a reCAPTCHA warning follow these steps too.

  • Contact support if the reset email never arrives.
