Or:
Right-click (ctrl+click on some computers) in the estimate where you want to insert a subtotal line.
On the context menu, click Insert Line
Click Insert a Subtotal line.
In the Subtotal Row Editor, type a description of what's included in this subtotal, such as "Foundation".
When you click Save, the subtotal will be inserted in the estimate.
Tips:
Plan to create a subtotal for each part of the job – Demolition, Foundation, Framing, etc.
If an estimate has several subtotals, each subtotal summarizes costs between two subtotals.
Subtotals are important when converting an estimate to a bid or invoice. Estimates have to account for every cost. Customer-facing documents don’t need that much detail. You may prefer to show charges by subtotal only in bids and invoices.
If you use QuickBooks, subtotals become cost categories on the Item List.
