Shortcut: F6

Icon:

Under Main Menu < Edit Menu, click Insert Line < Insert a Subtotal Line:

Or:

  1. Right-click (ctrl+click on some computers) in the estimate where you want to insert a subtotal line.

  2. On the context menu, click Insert Line

  3. Click Insert a Subtotal line.

  4. In the Subtotal Row Editor, type a description of what's included in this subtotal, such as "Foundation".

  5. When you click Save, the subtotal will be inserted in the estimate.

Tips:

  • Plan to create a subtotal for each part of the job – Demolition, Foundation, Framing, etc.

  • If an estimate has several subtotals, each subtotal summarizes costs between two subtotals.

  • Subtotals are important when converting an estimate to a bid or invoice. Estimates have to account for every cost. Customer-facing documents don’t need that much detail. You may prefer to show charges by subtotal only in bids and invoices.

  • If you use QuickBooks, subtotals become cost categories on the Item List.
