CUE's Mixed Reality system is designed to work with standard venue camera infrastructure, including PTZ cameras, fixed cameras, and hard cams — essentially any camera source you're already using in your production. For optimal AR tracking and to maintain the illusion, cameras should be relatively stationary, and elements cannot have people or objects walking in front of them as this would break the AR effect. In a typical setup, your camera feed flows into the Mixed Reality software, which overlays 3D elements in real-time before outputting the combined feed to your video board or broadcast. You can configure multiple camera presets within the system to switch between different perspectives while maintaining proper 3D positioning and lighting for the virtual elements. For many use cases like overhead shots during puck drops or wide shots of the playing surface, existing venue cameras can be used without additional hardware investment.
