A quick-reference guide to help you get the most out of your Trivia Mania activation

Getting Started

How do I log into Trivia Mania?

Log in to the CUE Platform. From there, click Trivia Mania in the top navigation bar — use the left and right arrows to scroll if you have multiple products available.

Tip: If you see a blank screen after logging in, that is normal. Simply click Trivia Mania in the top navigation bar to get started.

What is an instance, and do I need more than one?

An instance is your complete, self-contained activation setup — it holds your design, questions, game settings, and prizing all in one place. Every account comes with a Default instance ready to use. You can create additional instances for different events, venues, or visual themes by clicking the + button in the left-side panel. Each instance is fully independent — changes in one never affect another.

Important: Deleting an instance is permanent. There is no way to recover it once deleted. Always double-check before selecting Delete.

Where do I find the QR code and link to share with my guests or fans?

Click the QR code icon in your instance panel. From there you can save a high-resolution QR code to your device (perfect for print and large-format graphics), copy the QR code to your clipboard, or copy and share the direct URL. The URL can be posted to social media, added to your event app, or included in any promotional material so guests can play without needing to scan.

Tip: The saved QR code downloads at a very high resolution — it is suitable for large print materials and digital graphics.

What is the mainboard link and how do I use it?

The mainboard link is the URL for your video board, TV screen, or projector display. Copy the URL and open it in a browser on your display device, then go fullscreen. You can also click the chain-link icon to open it directly. The screen updates in real time throughout the game — no refreshing needed.

Tip: Test your mainboard output before your event by running a short test game in Manual mode.

Can I delete an instance I no longer need?

Yes. Click the three-dot menu next to the instance name and select Delete. You will be asked to confirm before anything is removed.

Important: Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The Default instance cannot be deleted.

Building Your Trivia Game

How do I add questions to my game?

Go to Control inside your instance and click Add Round — give it a name, then click Add. Inside the round, scroll to the Questions section and click Add Question. Each question can be up to 120 characters and supports multiple choice or free response formats. You can also add images or video to each question for both the video board and participant devices.

Tip: Prepare your questions in a spreadsheet first and copy/paste them in — it is much faster than typing each one directly.

Can I rename or delete a round?

Yes - hover your mouse to the right side of the round name. A three dot icon will appear. Click here to open the 'edit' and 'delete' options. Still not seeing the menu? Make sure the round is active (highlighted blue) and then try to hover your mouse on the right side of the button again.

What is the difference between multiple choice and free response?

Multiple choice lets you set two to four answer options and mark one as correct. Free response requires players to type their answer. For free response questions, you can add additional acceptable answers — such as abbreviations or alternate date formats — so players are not penalized for reasonable variations.

Can I reorder my questions after adding them?

Yes. Each question has a six-dot drag handle on the left side. Click and hold it to move the question to a new position. This works for media slides as well.

Can I have more than one correct answer for multiple choice questions?

No. Each question can only have one correct answer.

How do I load a large set of questions quickly?

Use the Import button in the Questions section. Select a JSON file from your device and all questions load instantly. You can also Export your current questions as a JSON file — great for backups or reusing question sets at future events.

Tip: Export your questions after building them so you always have a backup on file.

What media can I add to my questions?

Each question supports a separate image or video for the video board display and for participant devices — the two can be different files. Images must be 2 MB or less (JPEG, PNG). Videos must be 15 MB or less. You can also add an image to each individual answer choice. The Disable Media Frame toggle removes the decorative border around uploaded images if you prefer a cleaner look.

Game Modes & Timers

What are the three game modes and when should I use each?

Manual: A staff member or host controls every stage transition by clicking Move to Next Stage. Best for live-hosted events where someone is running the show. Automatic: The game advances on its own based on your timer settings — no operator needed after clicking Start. On-Demand: Guests start the game themselves from their own device at any time during your activation window. Best for lobby experiences, social campaigns, or any multi-day activation.

Can I fast-forward or skip a stage during a live game?

Yes. In both Manual mode, clicking Move to Next Stage at any point — even mid-countdown — immediately advances to the next stage. This is useful for skipping ahead when your MC needs to keep things moving.

What does the Question Number Stage do?

When toggled on, a brief screen showing the next question number appears between the answer reveal and the next question. It gives players a moment to reset before the next question begins. It is turned off by default and runs for three seconds when enabled.

Should I use Sequence or Random for question order?

Use Sequence when running your game in Manual or Automatic mode. Using Random in these modes can cause your video board display and participant devices to show different questions at the same time. Random is only safe to use in On-Demand mode.

Important: Always use Sequence in Manual and Automatic modes to keep the video board and participant devices in sync.

How do I reduce ties on the leaderboard?

Shorten the question timer — for example, from 60 seconds down to 15 seconds — and increase the points available per question – 1,000 is recommended. When players have less time and points decrease faster as seconds pass, answering quickly has a much greater impact on final scores.

I am trying to start a round that has questions but it is saying "Please Create a Question" and won't start?

Please check that your initial round has questions. If it is blank you can delete it or add a question to be able to start additional rounds.

Design & Customization

What file sizes should I use for images and videos?

Images (backgrounds, logos, banners, question media) must be 2 MB or less and can be JPEG or PNG. Videos used for question media must be 15 MB or less. PNG files with transparency are supported — the transparency will be respected when your image is layered over a background color or image.

Tip: For video boards, use a 16:9 aspect ratio for your background images for the best fit.

Why can't I see my question text on screen?

This is almost always a color contrast issue. Your question text color and your background color may be too similar. Go to Design, open the Color drawer, and change your Question Text color to something that contrasts clearly with your background. Always check the mobile preview link before going live.

Tip: To make questions sit directly on your uploaded background with no box around them, set both Question Background and Question Frame to 0% opacity in the Color drawer.

What is the difference between the splash page and the background?

The splash page is a full-screen image shown before your game starts — while guests are arriving and scanning the QR code. As soon as you click Start, the splash disappears and your background image takes over for the entire game. You can upload different images for the splash and the background, and separate versions for the video board and participant devices.

Can I add sponsor or partner logos and ads?

Yes — in two ways. First, upload a sponsor logo in the Design uploads section and it will display alongside your team logo in the header throughout the game. Second, add rotating marketing banners (at an 8:1 aspect ratio) in the Marketing Banners section — these appear at the top of participant devices and cycle through all uploaded images automatically.

Can I use my own font?

Yes. In Design, open the Fonts drawer and upload your OTF or TTF font file. You can upload multiple fonts but only one can be active at a time. The active font applies to all text in your activation — questions, answers, headings, and the leaderboard.

Important: Make sure your chosen font is legible at both large (question) and small (answer tile) sizes before your event.

Prizing

Where do I create prizes?

Prizes are created in Global Prizing — click your avatar in the top right corner, select Main Menu, then Global Prizing. Think of Global Prizing as your prize library. Once a prize is created there, you can attach it to any activation.

What types of prizes can I offer?

You can offer a branded digital coupon, a barcode, or a URL redirect. The built-in coupon editor lets you design a fully custom prize using your own background image. You can also enable SMS or email delivery so the prize is sent directly to the winner's phone or inbox after they claim it.

Tip: Design your coupon at a 9:16 (portrait) ratio in your design tool and upload it as the background image for a professional-looking result in seconds.

What is the difference between Automatic and Manual prize distribution?

Automatic delivers the prize to qualifying players immediately when they meet the condition — for example, as soon as they finish the game for a participation prize. Manual holds all prizes until you click Distribute All Manual Prizes after the game ends. Use Manual for rank-based prizes in On-Demand games.

Can I limit how many prizes one person receives?

Yes. In your prize settings under Global Prizing, you can limit prizes to one per user per event, one per user overall, or a custom number. Limits set in Global Prizing always take priority over any limits set inside a product activation.

Analytics

How do I see how my game performed?

Click Analytics inside your instance and select the instance from the dropdown in the top right. Every game session — from when you clicked Start to when you stopped the game — appears as a separate entry. You will see total players, unique players, returning players, and QR code scans. Click Save Report to export a detailed Excel file showing individual player scores, time in game, and questions answered.

How do I see who received a prize?

Go to Main Menu → Global Prizing, open the prize, and click Save Prize Report. The exported file shows each recipient's username, when their prize was delivered, and any contact information they provided during the claim (such as a phone number or email address if sharing was enabled).
