Vehicles we cover

You can use Cuvva to insure most GB-registered cars and vans. But there are some exceptions, and some other types of vehicle that we can't cover yet.

We can insure cars up to £60,000 in value (in case you're a learner, in which case it's £30,000) and vans up to £40,000. Cars can be up to 20 years old.

Depending on the car and driver, there are some insurance group restrictions, too. Just remember, if you can't get a quote on one car, you might be able to borrow a different one - just try again.

Here's some more things to be aware of 👇

We can't insure some modified vehicles

There are a few modifications we don't accept, although we accept all modifications which aid disabilities.

The below list are all fine.

Adaptions for disabilities - any modification to aid a disability (such as altered pedal configuration or hand controls)
Additional security - things like alarms, immobilisers, tracking devices, Alpha Dots and locking wheel nuts which have been fitted in accordance with manufacturers guidance
Badges - when the original badge have been removed, replaced or altered in colour
Dash Camera - in-car CCTV which has been fitted in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance
Front Grill - when the grill has been replaced with a direct fitment manufacturers/aftermarket grill, or a grill has been altered in colour
Graphics (short-term commercial vehicle only) - any promotional or advertising decals, or magnetic or painted signs (however: no motor trade or delivery graphics)
Lighting changes - legal lighting changes, such as upgraded bulbs, fog lights or the addition of light bars
Navigation and Bluetooth - aftermarket Bluetooth or satellite-navigation equipment which has been fitted in accordance with manufacturers guidance
Parking sensors and cameras - aftermarket parking sensors or cameras which have been fitted in accordance with manufacturers guidance
Roof racks, roof rails and roof boxes - aftermarket roof racks, roof rails or roof boxes which have been fitted in accordance with manufacturers guidance
Telematics device - any plug-in or hardwired telematics device which has been fitted in accordance with manufacturers guidance
Towbars - towbars which have been fitted in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance
Window stickers and sunstrips - sticker-based sun strips and window stickers (this excludes aftermarket tinted windows)

We don't cover any modifications not found on the list above.

If you’re ever in doubt about whether the change to your vehicle counts as a modification, ask yourself: ‘Was it added after the vehicle left the factory?’ If so, it's a modifiation.

We can usually cover cars that are already insured

You can use Cuvva on a vehicle that's already covered by another insurer, but there are a few exceptions.

If your vehicle is:

  • Scrapped or impounded

  • Hire cars, or vehicles on a fleet policy

  • Company/business vehicles

  • A courtesy car

We sadly can't insure it.

Other vehicle types

We don't insure motorbikes, scooters, or quad bikes.

MOT

We can only cover vehicles with a valid MOT (although you can use Cuvva to drive to a pre-booked MOT test). You can use our free car checker to find out if your MOT is up to date.

Check before you drive

Before you buy a policy, make sure that your vehicle meets these requirements.

If you use Cuvva on a vehicle which shouldn't have been insured with us, we might not be able to cover you again. And if you were involved in an accident, our underwriter wouldn't pay out any claims.

If we can't insure your vehicle, the app will tell you why when you try to get a quote. But if you have any questions, our customer support team are on hand 365 days a year, from 9am to 9pm. Just drop them a message in the app or email support@cuvva.com.

Happy driving 🚗
