In Gearbelt, you might generate blank QR codes to assign them to assets later, especially when the assets are new, not yet on-site, or not yet entered into the system. This allows teams to prepare labels in advance and stay ahead of deployment. It’s also useful when a QR code on an asset gets damaged or lost - you can quickly print a new blank code and reassign it without interrupting workflows.

First, ensure you have generated your blank QR codes following this process: https://intercom.help/dashpivot/en/articles/11058506-how-to-generate-blank-qr-codes-for-assets-in-gearbelt

To assign a blank QR code to an asset, follow these steps:

1. Open your mobile phone’s camera

2. Scan the blank (unassigned) QR code using your camera app

3. Tap on the link displayed on your screen

4. Log in to Gearbelt with your phone number

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the asset you want to assign to the blank code

6. Tap Assign QR

7. Confirm the action by clicking Assign in the new pop-up window

Note

  • Each asset can only have one active QR code. Assigning a new code to an asset will deactivate the previous one
