Invite and manage users in a study

Once a study exists, you grant access to it user by user. A user can have access to every study on the platform, or to one study only, and their role can differ from one study to the next.

šŸ”‘ Prerequisite: the person must already be invited to the platform before you can add them to a study. See Invite and manage platform users.

Invite a user to a study

The Users page of the study lists everyone with access and the role each one holds, with search and filters to find a specific entry.

šŸ’” Tip: removing somebody from a study is not permanent. You re-invite them through exactly the same process, so taking access away while a person is between roles costs you nothing.

Platform role and study role

Every user carries two roles, and understanding which one is in play saves a lot of confusion about permissions.

Role

What it governs

Platform role

The default, applying across every study the user can reach.

Study role

The role inside one specific study, which overrides the platform role there.

Changing the study role lets you give somebody different responsibilities on one project without touching what they can do everywhere else. That is the mechanism to use when a data manager needs to act as a monitor on a single study.

šŸ› ļø Step by step guide

  1. Go to the Study settings.

  2. Select Users.

  3. Find the user and click the pen icon next to their role.

  4. Choose the new role and save.
