π Overview
Your employer account includes two separate status indicators, both visible from the Employer Profile > Overview tab. Each status tracks something different, and understanding both helps you know where your account stands and whether you're ready to run payroll.
The two status types are:
Account Standing answers the question: Is your company legally compliant?
Pay Worker Readiness answers the question: Is your account ready to run payroll for at least one worker?
Both statuses are visible from the same location, but they update independently based on different criteria.
βοΈ Account Standing
Account Standing reflects your company's compliance and verification status. Below is a breakdown of each possible status and what it means for your account.
Status | Description |
| The initial status when your account is created. Your account stays here until all required information is submitted to kick off the Know Your Business (KYB) verification process. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
| Your account moves to this status once all required information has been submitted. Your business and workers will be screened and verified. If additional information is needed, our support team will reach out via email with a Request for Information (RFI). If the initial screening passes, your account will move to Active. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
| Your account has been approved and has no outstanding requirements. You can operate without restrictions and run payroll in this status. |
| Your account has been granted conditional approval while additional review is completed. This may apply if you have already run payroll but added new workers, made changes to your account, or if some screenings were flagged as conditional. In most cases, no action is required from you. If anything is needed, our support team will reach out. You can run payroll in this status. |
| Your account has outstanding requirements, failed a screening, or has a returned bank error that prevents you from paying workers. Our support team will reach out via email with details and next steps. Once the necessary information is received, your account will be reassessed. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
| Your account did not pass employer screening and cannot operate on the platform. This typically applies to businesses that present extremely high risk or operate in an industry the platform cannot serve. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
π‘Please Note: The data required to initiate the KYB process includes:
Legal business name
Tax filing address
Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
Company bank account
π Pay Worker Readiness
Pay Worker Readiness reflects whether your account has completed the steps needed to run payroll for at least one worker. Below is a breakdown of each possible status.
Status | Description |
| The initial status when your account is created. Your account remains here while you complete the setup process, including providing your business information and adding workers. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
| This status applies if you completed onboarding and indicated that payroll was already run in another system during the current year. Your account will remain here while historical payroll data is being imported. For more information, see the payroll migration article [here]. You cannot run payroll in this status. |
| Your account has completed all required setup steps. If a historical payroll migration was needed, that has also been completed. You can run payroll in this status. |
