Onyx DOM (Depth of Market)

Updated over 2 months ago

The DOM (Depth of Market) in Onyx provides a real-time view of bid and ask liquidity at each price level, allowing traders to see market depth and execute trades directly from the ladder.

The DOM is designed for speed, precision, and active order flow trading.

What the DOM Shows

The Onyx DOM displays:

  • Bid column (green): Buy orders waiting below the market

  • Ask column (red): Sell orders waiting above the market

  • Price ladder: Each row represents a valid tick price

  • Current price: Highlighted in the center of the ladder

  • Order size: Number of contracts resting at each price level

This gives you a clear picture of supply and demand in real time.

DOM Controls Explained

Across the top of the DOM you’ll see:

  • SELL: Click to submit sell orders at the selected price

  • BID: Shows buy-side liquidity

  • RECENTER: Re-centers the ladder around current price

  • ASK: Shows sell-side liquidity

  • BUY: Click to submit buy orders at the selected price

You can interact directly with the ladder to place orders quickly.

Trading from the DOM

You can place orders directly by clicking on the ladder:

  • Click on the Bid side to place a buy order

  • Click on the Ask side to place a sell order

  • Orders respect your current Order Entry settings

  • Bracket logic and quantity apply if enabled

This makes the DOM ideal for scalping and fast execution strategies.

Top of Book

The Top of Book view focuses on the best bid and best ask prices only.

This is useful when:

  • You want a simplified view

  • You are trading very fast markets

  • You don’t need full depth

Common Use Cases

The Onyx DOM is commonly used for:

  • Scalping and short-term trades

  • Order flow analysis

  • Liquidity-based entries

Best Practices

Important Notes

  • DOM data is powered by Rithmic

  • Execution speed depends on your gateway selection and network quality
