Yes, the role of the UPS is to keep dcbel’s system electronics powered up when a connection to the grid is lost and the device transitions to a blackout power source. When grid power is restored, the UPS is activated again to pick up the slack during the power transition phase.
Outfitting dcbel with the optional blackout power kit will equip the device with Bridge (Smart Islanding Switch) and Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).
Bridge (Smart Islanding Switch) isolates the home and unit from the utility grid during a power outage and has the ability to ensure grid sync once the grid connection is restored.
The system would need to be connected to a charged stationary battery or electric vehicle to maintain frequency and phase sync when the grid is not connected.
When Bridge is activated, power flow to the grid is blocked. This is a precaution to ensure the safety of utility personnel who may be working on the grid during an outage.
